GARTER Filed 0G13. 19, 1927 CJD Cil
The anchor' 19 is formed of resilient wire bent to assume a U-shape and has one arm 20 bent tofprovidc an eye 2l engaged in the side loop 1S and its other arm bent to provide a hook .or bill 22 to be engaged in the eye 7 of the fastener 6, and securely but releasably retain the leg-encircling band in encircling Vengagement with a leg.
When the garter is in use, the band 4, after being adjusted by the slide 5 for proper length, is passed about the leg and its free end portion overlaps the pad so that the hook 22 of the anchor' may be engaged in the eye 7. The lower loop ll of the sock engaging means is placed under the sock and the clasp l5 disposed over the sock so that the button 14, together with a portion of the sock and a portion of the loop, may be passed through the slot 16 in the latch and wedged tightly in the lower portion of the slot. Since the edge portions of the metal from which the latch is formed are folded inwardly under the sides of the slot, there will be no danger of the sock beingr acci.- dentally cut or worn through when it is tightly wedged in the lower portion of Jthe slot. In view of the fact that the anchor 'i9 is formed of resilient wire, and its arms are moved apart in order to engage the bill 22 in the eye 7, the anchor will exert a pulling` action which will hold the,` band tightly about the leg and prevent it from slippino'. Therefore, the garter will be retained in its proper position and the sock will be well supported. lVhen the garter becomes soiled it can be washed with soap and water in the usual manner and will not be damaged as the band does not contain strands of rubber which would be liable to deteriorate through the action of water o1' perspiration.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
l. A garter comprising a pad, a fleg encircling band carried by said pad, and hose engaging means carried by said pad and consisting of a strip of pliable material secured to Vthe pad and'extcnding downwardly therefrom and folded upwardly and secured to the pad to provide a depending loop and again folded downwardly and upwardly and secured to the pad to provide a second depf-znding` loop shorter than the first loop, a but-ton carried by the first loop, and a keeper suspended from the second loop and having a slot formed therein to receive the button, the first secured end portion of said strip extending upwardly against the pad above the second loop and folded to provide au extension extending transversely of the pad and secured thereto, and companion securing means carried by the side extension and said leg encircling band.
2. A garter comprising a pad, :l leg encircling and carried by said pad, and hose engaging' means carried by said pad and consisting of a strip of pliable material secured to the pad and extendingv dmvnwardly therefrom and folded upwardly and :fc-cured tothe strip to provide a depemlingil loop and again folded dov. ardly and upwardly and secured 'to the strip to provide a ,second depending loop shorter than the i'irsii loop, a button carried by the first loop, and a keeper suspended from the second loop and having a slot formed therein to receive the button, the first inentioned end portion of said strip extending upwardly against the pad above the second loog and folded to provide a side loop extending transversely of the pad and secured thereto, a fastener carried by said leg encircling band, and a U-shaped keeper of resilient material havin; v one arm formed with an eye engaged in the side loop and its other arm formed with a bill adapted to be releasabiy engaged with said fastenei o. A garter comprising a pad, a leg-encircling band extending from one side of said pad and having one end secured thereto, a fastener carried by the free end of said band, hose-engaging means carried b v said pad and including` a pliable strip depending from the pad and having its upper portion secured against the outer surface of the pad and its upper end folded to provide ay side extension overlying the pad, the side exten-fi sion being provided with means for engagement 'ith the fastener carried by said band, and hose-gripping ineens carried by the depending portion of said strip.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
