NITE 'l 'l li '1; arts.
LAUN DRY-CHECKIN G DEVICE.
Application filed August 20, 1927. Serial No. 214,244.
This invention relates to laundry checking devices whereby a plurality of items belonging to one group may be properly assembled in a designated compartment. The device comprises, broadly, a cabinet having a plurality of open compartments, in which are removably placed open cartons. The front wall of each carton is provided with a removable key-rack of novel construction, upon which keys having the identical conformation of the slots in the rack are adapted to be impaled.
In the accompanying drawings there is illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 1 is a pcrsl ective view of my improved assembling cabinet and the key-rack in operative position;
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the rack;
Fig. 3 is a front view of the key, and
Fig. 4c is a cross-sectional view of the keyrack and keyway, showing the total impalement of the key on the hook.
Inasmuch as the purposes and uses of this character of checking device, of which this invention forms the mechanical embodiment, are well understood, es iecially in the laundry industry, a detailed description of its function, except in so far as the application and O cooperation of the elements, is concerned, is
not thought to be necessary. v
The cabinet 1, comprises a plurality of open compartments 2, into which are removably inserted cartons 3, adapted to receive the va rious articles. The bottom of each compartment is provided with a slidable extension 4 upon which items of apparel 5, may be assembled and the carton supported. The extension of the upper tier of compartments is preferably hinged at 6 so as topermit access to the lower compartments.
A key-rack 7, provided with a lip 8, is adapted to be mounted on the front of the carton and removed when not in use. The rack preferably comprises a plurality of key-ways 9, and which may conveniently be stamped out of one sheet of metal as shown. Each key-way comprises an offset flange 12 along the edge of which is punched out a number of predetermined patterns of similar configuration to conform with the outline of a key 10 adapted to be inserted therein and to be impaled upon a hook 11 secured to the flange medially of each slot.
The hook is so arranged with respect to the slot that unless the key fits the slot, there is only partial impalement, and the key extends out at an inclination.
This is notice to the operator that the items to which the keys has been attached are being distributed to the wrong compartment and he will proceed to make the correction.
The key 10 and the rack 7 are provided with identifying characters, such as a numeral so that the same may be readily correlated. But it so happens that occasionally the numerals are misread, and the articles wrongly distributed. eventuality It is for the avoidance of such an that the key system is provided.
The key 10 comprises a safety pin to which is attached a plate bearing an ldentifying numeral or character and havmg its periphery notched to tern 1n the in the plate conform to the punched-out patkey-way. A hole 13 is punched so that the key may be impaled claim is 1. A key -rack made of one piece of metal having an attaching flange, a plurality of olfset flanges suitably punched along their edges to conform in outline to the periphery of a notched checking pin, and hooks attached to said rack and disposed medially of said punched areas.
2. In combination a rack member 1ncluding a plate having a slot extending from one edge and provided with a selectively shaped periphery,
a hook carried by the plate and projecting through the slot, and a key memher having a head provided with a selectively shaped periphery corresponding to said slot.
3. In combination, a rack member including a body portion and a selector plate portion supported from the body parallel to the body, said plate portion having-"a slot extending from one edge and provided with a selectively shaped periphery, a hook carried by the plate and projecting through the slot, and a key member having a head provided with a selectively to said slot.
shaped periphery corresponding In testimony whereof I afliX my signature,
JOHN S. PATTERSON.
