The invention disclosed in this application relates to identifier mechanism and particularly to the form wherein a plurality of tags I or article markers are attached to laundry articles'to indentify them in their course through laundry treatment.

I-Ieretofore there have been identifying ducing the possible number of identifying combinations. In other words, there was no means provided which required each marker to be presented to the receiving device or rack in a predetermined non-reversed position. It must be remembered that the tags must be of relatively thin metal and cannot be of any great thickness or have projections at any point because they must pass through such machines as the flatwork ironer, etc. Hence, almost any one of the markers previously employed'could not only be inverted but could be reversed and be presented improperly to the receiving device or rack thus producing errors. V

The object of thepresent invention therefore is to provide the tags with means such as masterwardsor recesses, or the like, which cooperates with other means associated with the receiving device or rack so that the marker or identifier may be applied to the receiving device or rack in one position only, and that a predetermined non-reversed, non-inverted position.

Other features of the invention will be brought out in the following description, drawings and claims. r

Above this device and parallel to it; is a master bar 3 substantially coextensivewith the bar 2 but preferably slightly shorter, as shown, so that the taglmay be lodged first upon the bar 2 and brought into engagement with the end of a master bar 3. This master bar may be placed in the position shown in the dotted line position indicated at 4, or in the dottedline positions indicated at 5 and 6, in which case the support l 'would be arranged to carry thesebars in their proper position. With such an arrangement there couldbe many differently mastered receiving devices or racks without duplication. V

The bar 2 is also provided with suitable wards 7,8 and 9, which by'being' located in different transverse positions provide for a large number of combinations for identifiers. .Ihere will be'one rack for each of the combinations made possible by the wards 7, 8 and 9 and the master bar 3.

Cooperating with these receiving devices or-racks are the markers, shown at 1 0, which may be of any suitable shape and provided with a central opening 11 having openings receiving the wards 7, 8 and 9, for example. This'marker is also provided with a recess, indicated at 12, for cooperation. with the master bar 3. Secured to the marker 10 is a ring13 receiving a pin 14 or other device for securing the marker to the article.

Having described my invention what I claim is:

1. In combination with an asserting apparatus including a supporting device embodying a bar having wardings thereon and a master bar in proximity therewith, a tag attachable to the article to be assorted having an opening'whereby it may be disposed on said supporting bar, openings adapted to cooperate with ti e wardings on said supporting bar. and a recess for cooperation with said master bar, said master bar being so disposed relative to said supporting device as to require positioning of the tag in one predetermined non-reversed position to be positioned on said supporting device.

2. In combination with an assorting apparatus including supporting device embodying a bar having wardings thereon and a master bar in proximity therewith, a tag attachable t0 the article to be asserted and havin an opening whereby it may be disposed on said supporting bar, openings adapted to cooperate With the wardings on said supporting bar, and a recess disposed adjacent the outer periphery of said tag for cooperation With said master bar, said recess being so disposed on said tag and said master bar being so disposed relative to said supporting device as to require positioning of the tag in one predetermined non-reversed position to be positioned on said supporting device.

3. In combination with an, asserting apparatus including a supporting device embodying a bar having wardings thereon and a master bar in proximity therewith, a tag attachable to the article to be assorted and having an opening whereby it may be disposed on said supporting bar, openings adapt ed to cooperate with the wardings on said supporting bar and a recess disposed adjacent the outer periphery of said for cooperating with said master bar, said recess being so positioned on. said tag, said master bar being so disposedrelative to said supporting device,and said openings in the tag adapted to cooperate with the wardings on said supporting device being so disposed as to require positioning of the tag in one predetermined non-reversed position to be positioned on said supporting device.
