LAUNDRY REGISTERING DEIVIQEn Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1907.
Application filed May 16,1906- Serial No. 317,210.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known 'that I, THOMAS OLIVER BRANCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Little Rock, in the county of Pulaski and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Laundry Registering Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such, as will enable others Skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for registering a number of articles to be. accounted for when said articles are sent out of the possession of the owner, and is especially applicable for use as a register for articles of laundry.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap, and efiicient article of manufacture which can be continuously used and which may be made of any suitable material such as paper, cloth, wood, metal, etc., and which may be marketed directly or utilized for advertising purposes.
The essential feature ofthe invention consists in providing a base member adapted to contain a list of articles and a numbered field opposite each article associated with. a single in icator for each class of articles operative along the numbered field, adapted to register the number of articles in its field to be accounted for, and which indicator may be locked against movement in its adjusted position.
While the invention is not limited to the specific details illustrated and described, for t 1e purpose of disclosure, reference is had to the accompanying drawings illustrating a practical embodiment of the same, in which,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device, showing one of the indicators in its adjusted position and the remaining indicators arranged in their normal positions at one end of the base member, and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view, showing one of the indicators in. its adjusted position.
1 designates a base member of any suitable material provided as at 2 with a marginal space adapted to contain a list of arti-' cles, said base portion being also provided with a pluralityof numbers, indicating the number of pieces or pairs of articles to be accounted for listed in the marginal space 2.
For the purpose of. convenience, the base member may be suitably ruled, forming a column for each number, angularly disposed with relation to the list of articles in the marginal space. Arranged opposite each article of Said list is provided a movable indicator adapted to be adjusted along the numbered field to any position within its plane of movement to indicate the number of articles opposite it to be accounted for. In the construction illustrated, this is accomplished by providing the base member with a series of longitudinal slots 3 extending opposite each article of the list and traversing the ruled columns of the numbered fields. These longitudinal slots are provided with a plurality of recesses or depressions 4, one recess or deression being provided for each of the numered columns. A Suitable indicator is provided for each of said longitudinal slots and but a single indicator is used in each slot, there being as many indicators as there are slots in the base member. Inthe drawings, this indicator is represented as comprising a pointer 5 provided with a lateral shank 6 terminating in a weight 7, said shank being adapted to operate in said longitudinal slots and depressions.
It is obvious from the foregoing that when a number of articles are to be sent to the laundr each article or pair of articles may be rea ily re istered. For instance by moving the in icator designating rons" from zero to column 4, the shank 6 will drop in the depression 4 of that column, which depression will hold the indicator against 'movement until elevated and moved again along the longitudinal slot, the weight 7 assisting in holding the shank 6 in the depres sion 4 and also tending to hold the pointer 5 pointing toward the number of the particular column. Having thus described the invention what we claim is:
The combination with a base member provided with a plurality of slots and a plurality of depressions disposed along each of said slots, said slots representing a list of articles to be accounted for, of means for registering the number of each of said articles to be accounted for, comprising a plurality of counterbalancing indicators, one for each slot,
each ofsaid indicators consisting of a shank,
a pointer on one end of said shank, and an oppositely disposed counterbalancing weight i tions in said slots, substantially as de- 10 onthe other end of said shank cooperating to v scribed.
hold said pointer directed upwardly, said In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, shank portion being freely swung in said slot in presence of two witnesses.
