. IRONING TABLE.
Application fi1ed. November This invention relates to an ironing table of that type adapted, when not in use, to be folded against a wall or into a shallow cupboard provided therefor.
It is an object of the invention to provide a device of this character having means whereby it can be adjusted readily to different heightsfor use by persons ofdifferent sizes.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which is durable and ellicient and can be set up readily for use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, itbeing understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings, the preferred form. of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings, v
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device set up for use.
Figure 2 is an enlarged section on line 22, Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged section on line 3-3, Figure 1.
Figure 4 is an enlarged section on line 4- 1, Figure 1.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a supporting structure which can be in the form of an open frame having parallel guide rods 2 attached thereto adjacent the sides. On these guide rods are mounted the end portions 3 of a slide 4:,these end portions being preferably turned inward- 1y toward each other to provide sleeves for partly or entirely embracing the rods. Slide at has parallel slots 5 therein adjacent the center and extending loosely through these slots are the sides 6' of ,a supporting yoke 6 the intermediate portion of which isextended back of the slide l between the slots 5. A hinge connection 7 is provided between the slide a and a plate 8 which is tightly fastened to one end portion of the ironing board 9. Formed in this plate are openings 10 into. which the sides 6 of the yoke are extended, said sides being projected forwardly under the plate 8 within a recess 11 provided for them and being held tightly in position by a screw 12 or the like extendingthrough the 8, 1927. Serial N0. 231,944.
plate 8 and into the board 9. .The sides 6 of the yoke are of course offset where they extend through the openings 10. The yoke, however, is held fixed relative to the plate and to the board 1 with its intermediate portion spaced a desired distance from the hinge 7 Arranged on the back of the frame 1 adjacent the center is a supporting rod 13 slidably engaged by a clamping yoke 14 which is fastened to the slide 4 in any suitable manner. An eye screw 15 is carried by this clamping member and is adapted to engage the rod 13, thereby to hold the memberl against sliding movement and, consequently, maintain the slide 1 and the parts carried thereby at a predetermined elevation.
l/Vith the parts secured as described it will be apparent that the ironing board 9 can be swung downwardly to a working position at which time the yoke will'engage the back of the slide 4; and act as a brace for supporting the ironing board. By loosening the screw 15 the slide t'can be raised or lowered along the rods 2 and 13 and after the board has been brought to a desired elevation the screw can be tightened so as to hold the parts against further sliding movement. lVhen the ironing board is not in use it can be swung upwardly about. its hinge connection with the slide 4 at which time the yoke will swing backwardly and downwardly to the positions shown in Figure 2 by full lines.
What is claimed is: I
1. The combination with guides, of a slide mounted thereon and having slots, a supporting rod, means carried by the slide and engaging the rod for supporting said slide at any desired position on the guides, an ironing board hingedly connected to the slide, and a yoke carried bythe board and movable within the slots in the slide, said yoke and slide cooperating to support the board in horizontal position, said board being foldable against the slide when not in use.
2. In an ironing table, a board, a supporting structure, a slidable plate adjustably carrrie JOHN P. SUIQ'IJIN, OF SALEM, OREGON. v
ried by said structure having slots therein,
porting the guides, at supporting rod carried by said structure, means carried by the slide and engaging the rod for supporting the slide at any desired position on the guide, an ironing board hingedly connected to the slide, and
a yoke carried by the board and movable Within the slots in the slide, said yoke and slide cooperating to support the board in horizontal position,-said board being foldable against the slide when not in use. 10
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature.
JOHN P. SUN DIN.
