PATENT OFFICE.
HANS iKOCH, OF DIETIKON, NEAR ZURICH, SWITZERLAND.
DRAWING AND WRITING DESK.
Application filed April 6, 1925. Serial No. 21,099.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HANS KooH, a'citizen of the Swiss Confederation, and a resident of Dietikon, near Zurich,Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawing and Writing Desks, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention is to provide a drawing and writing desk which enables the drawing board or the writing table to be adjusted in suitable positions, at any height, in any inclined position so that the draftsman or writer can give the drawing board or table the most favourable position for himself.
Another object of the invention is to provide means to balance the board perfectly in every position and to provide means to secure the board in any desired position.
* Other objects; of the invention relate to' the improved construction of the board which allow the drawing paper to be drawn from a roll stored on said board and to be tensioned on the board andfinally to be out.
Other objects of the invention relate to the provision of minor parts and to details, all of which will be more clearly set forth in the following specification.
With the above objects in view the inven tion resides in the parts and combinations of parts hereinafter described and particularly set forth 1 in the claims appended hereto.
A constructional form of the subject of the invention is illustrated diagrammatically in the accompanying drawing, wherein Fig. 1 shows a side elevation,
Fig. 2 shows a front elevation,
Fig. 3 shows a diagram,
Figs. 4-6 show details partly in section.
The device illustrated is provided with a stand 1 having a wide foot, to which are hinged, by means of pivots, 2, 3, two links 4:, 5. The free ends of the links 4, 5 are hingedlyconnected together by a strut 6 so that the links 4, 5 can always be swung parallel to each other on the pivots 2, 3 whereby the strut 6 can be adjusted parallel to itself in the direction of height. To the link 5 is hinged a rod 7 which is slidable in a bush 8 rotatably mounted on the stand 1 and adapted to be adjusted by a clamping screw so that the link 5 and thus the link 1 with the strut 6 can be secured at any suitable height by tightening the clamping screw. To the strut 6 there is hinged by means of pivots 9 a frame carrying the drawing board 1.0. To the frame is hinged an adjusting rod 11 which is slidable in a bush 12 and adapted to'be secured by a clamping screw. The bush 12 is rotatable in a bracket 13 of the strut 6. The drawing board 10 can be adjusted on the pivot 9 in any suitable inclined position whereby by tightening the set screw the rod 11 and thus the drawing board lO can be secured in any suitable inclined position. The link at having an extension, extending beyond the pivot 12 is provided with stops lei. On these stops 1 1 is supported the drawing board 10 when this is folded completely downwards, fand comes to lie parallel and at least substantially parallel to the link 4. At the top of the drawing board is provided a recess 15 in which a roll of drawing paper is rotatably mounted, which latter is adapt-ed to be tensioned over the board 10. The lower end of the board 10 is provided with a bar 16, which can be clamped against the board 10 by means of hand screws 17, which however is guided on the bolt 18 of the screws 17. The drawing paper to be secured to the board 10 is passed under the bar 16 and tightly clamped by tightening the nuts 17 the roll 15 is held by friction or some frictional device. In order to enable the paper to be cut ofi easily and without damaging the board 10, a groove 19 is provided near the lower end of the board 10 which is arranged somewhat deeper than the drawing surface of the board 10. The cutter adapted to out the paper can be guided in this groove 19.
Over the board 10 there is arranged for sliding movement parallel to itself by means of cords etc., a square 20. To the square 20 is secured a rod 21 on which is movably mounted a slider 22 on which are provided two rulers 23, 24 set at right angles one to the other and adjustable in any suitable inclined position.
In order that the drawing board 10 may easily be adjusted in height a balance weight 25 is adjustably mounted on the link 5 so as to balance the drawing board 10.
The new drawing device enables the board 10 to be used at any suitable height and in any suitable inclined position, whereby only a little space is taken up underneath the drawing board by the stand. The device may be used as a Writing desk etc.
What I Wish to secure by U. S. Letters Patent is l. A drawing or Writing desk with a balanced drawing board adjustable in height comprising in combination, a stand parallel links pivoted to said stand and interconnected by a strut, a drawing board hinged to said strut, a Weight on one of said links to balance the board a rod hinged to one link a sleeve movable on said stand adapted to receive said rod, a clamping-screw to 12; the rod in said sleeve, a second rod hinged to the board, a second bush arranged on the strut adapted to receive the said rod a clamping screw to adjustably fix the rod in said bush substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.
2. A drawing board support, comprising a stand, links pivotally connected thereto, a strut connecting one end of the links and maintaining them in parallel relation, means carried by the upper end of the strutfor pivotally supporting a drawing board or the like, means extending from one of the links and adapted for adjustable connection with the stand to fix the angular relation of the links and stand at will, a bracket carried by and projecting from the strut, and a member adjustable in the bracket and adapted to be connected to the drawing board beyond the pivotal connect-ion thereof, whereby to adjust the angular relation of the board to the strut.
3. A drawing board support, comprising a stand, links pivotally connected thereto, a
strut connecting one end of the links and maintaining them in parallel relation, a counterbalance Weight adjustable on one of the links, means carried by the upper end of the strut for pivotally supporting a drawing board or the like, means extending from one of the 'links and adapted for adjustable connection with the stand to fix the angular relation of the links and stand at will, a bracket carried by and projecting from the strut, and a member adjustable in the bracket and adapted to beconnected to the drawing board beyond the pivotal connection thereof, vrherel'iy to adjust :the angular relation of the board to the strut.
4-. A, drawing board support, comprising a stand, links pivotally connected thereto, a strut connecting one end of the links and maintaining them in parallel relation, :1 counterbalance weight adjustable on one of the links, means on the other of the links to eng ge the stand to limit movement of the links in one direction, means carried by the upper end of the strut forpivotally supporting a drawing board or the like, means extending from one of the links and adapted for adjustable connection with the stand to (ix the angular relation of the links and stand at will, a bracket carried by and projecting from the strut, and a member adjustable in the bracket and adapted to be connect-ed to the drawing board beyond the pivotal connection thereof, whereby to adjust the angular relation of the board to the strut.
In witness whereof I afiix my signature.
