Description

May 2l, 1929. G. sTRoM WALL CONSTRUCTION Filed Jan. 19,' 1925 ATToRNEY5 Patented May 21, 1929.,
GUSTAV STROLVI, OF IFONTIAC, MICHIGAN.
WALL CDIISTRGTION.
Application filed January 19, .1.925.
The invention relates to wall constructions of a building and has among its objects the provision of a wall which may be constructed cheaply and which will afford great strength. A further provision lies in providing a wall having spaced inner and outer sections forming a continuous air space in the wall and a plurality of spaced vertically extending diagonal brace members forming in eifect vertical trussed columns.
With these and other `objects in view, the invention resides in the novel features of construction and combination and arrangements of parts as more fully hereinafter de scribed and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a wall constructed in accordance with this invention; and
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the wall columns.
In the drawings reference character A indicates the outer' section of the wall and l the inner section each of said sections being formed of a plurality of blocks 1l) or other like building elements. T he blocks or building element-s 10 may be of any desired composition such as terra cotta, brick, concrete, etc.; and preferably are formed with interlocking tongues 11 and grooves 12. The wall sections A and B are spaced to provide agcontinuous air space 13.
Spaced at suitable intervals along the wall are the outer and inner wall columns 14 and 15 respectively connected together by suitable diagonally extending cross braces 16. The latter'are formed integral with the columns and cooperate therewith to form in effect a truss column for supporting the floor beams, one of -which is shown at 17.
The blocks of each wall section A and B adjacent the columns are preferably end grooved at 18 and broken away to form the poured vertically extending concrete wall columns 14 and l5, the concrete forming the Wall columns flowing in the end grovees 18 to tie the wall columns with the wall sections. y
From Figure 2 of the drawing it will' be noted that adjacent braces entend diagonally in opposite directions. thus insurii I rigid and efficient construction. By entending the braces 16 in the foreoging manner Serial No. 3,1155.
the stresses to which each wall are subjected are to a certain extent transferred and distributed to the other wall, permitting loading as by the floor beams 17 at points along the height of the wall section columns.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantage of my invention will be readily understood, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of the claims.
W'hat I claim as my invention is 1. A building wall formed of building elements and having spaced inner and outer wall sections, a plurality of groups, of poured columns comprising vertically aligned diagonal bridges connecting the inner and outer wall sections.;
2. A building wall comprising inner and outer wall sections formed of blocks or the like, spaced wall columns poured in the respeetiveplanes of the wall sections, means for interlocking the wall columns with their respective wall sections and a plurality ofy diagonally extending cross braces integrally connecting opposite wall columns.
3. A. building wall comprising inner vand y outer walll sections formed of blocks or the like, spaced wall columns poured in the r'espective planes of the wall sections, means for interlocking the wall columns with their respective wall sections and a plurality of vertically aligned diagonally extending cross braces integrally connecting opposite wall columns forming in effect therewith vertically extending trussed columns.
1l. In combination with a wall having spaced inner and outer wall sections, a poured column therefor' comprising opposite wall columns and integrally connected diagonally exten ding cross braces. adg acont braces efrtending in a diagonally opposite direction, :said wall sections formed of blocks or the like.
5. A. building wall comprising inner and outer wall sections formed of building elements, oppesitely spaced wall columns poured in the respective planes of the wall sections, and a plurality of cross braces integrally connecting opposite wall columns.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
Y GUSTAV STROM.
