Description

May 14, 1929. J FAUGHN 7 1,712,696
SASH ROLLER Filed March 30, 1928 Amrngy Patented May 14, 1929.
UNITED STATES JAMES W. FAUG-HN,
or KERENS, TEXAS.
SASH ROLLER.
Application filed March 30, 1928. Serial No. 265,838.
The present invention relates to sash rollers and has for its principal object to pro vide a roller adapted for mounting along the edge of the sash for frictionally engaging the window frame whereby to secure the sash at a desired raised position without the necessity of employing the use of the usual sash weights and cords.
A further objectof the invention is to provide a sash roller of this character, which may be easily and quickly secured 1n position to the sash without necessitating any material changes or alterations in either the construction of the sash or of the win dow frame.
At the same time, an eflicient and reliable attachment is provided for securing the sash in adjusted position, which also prevents rattling of the sash in the frame, which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended. a
Other objects and advantages reside in the special construction and combination of the various elements comprising the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, wherein;
Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevational view of a section of window sash and frame, with parts broken away and illustrating the manner in which the roller is secured in position to the sash.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary edge elevational view of the sash, showing the roller attached thereto.
Figure 3 is a detail of the roller supporting member.
Figure 4 is a detail showing the spring provided for urging the roller against the frame and Figure 5 is a detail of the cup adapted to fit within a recess formed in the edge of the sash and within which the roller support and s ring are retained.
Re erring now to the drawing in detail, the invention comprises a cup-like member 5, adapted to fit within a recess formed in the edge of the sash 6, adjacent the window frame 7 said cup having its edges formed with a series of flange segments 8, arranged to extend over the edge of the openings in the sash, whereby to limit the inward movement of the cup with respect to the sash.
The walls of the cup 5 are formed with a series of slotted openings 9, extending from a point adjacent the base of the cup to the A pair of spaced parallel lugs 13 are struck out from the head portion 12, with openings formed therein for receiving the ends of a roller shaft 14, for rotatably supporting a roller 15, between the lugs 13.
A coil spring 16 is interposed between the under side of the head 12 of the roller support, and the base of the cup whereby to normally urge the roller outwardly with respect thereto, so that when the parts are as sembled in position, as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, within the recess formed in the sash, the roller will bear against the ad jacent edge of the window frame 7. It will be apparent that in this manner, the sash will be frictionally retained in position in the window frame, so that the same may be raised or lowered to any desired position, and will be so retained without the necessity of employing the use of the usual sash Weights and cords.
It is to be understood that any desired number of the rollers may be mounted at each edge of the sash, depending upon the weight of the sash and glass to properly retain the sash in a-desired position within the frame.
It is obvious that the invention is susceptible of various changes and modifications, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages, and I accordingly claim all such forms of the device to which I am entitled.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A sash roller comprising a cup recessed within the edge of the sash and having flanges formed at its edge for engaging the 2 n f" r 1,712, 96
edge of the sash for limiting inward movement of the support, a roller rotatably ment of the on said clip having slotted mounted on the sup ort, and a coil sprin l openings forine in its walls and extending interposed between t e base of the cup and t rough the outer edge of the cup whereby the support, whereby to engage the roller out- 5 to form the walls thereof into a series of wardly for frictionally engaging the sides of concentric fingers,. a rollersupport having a sash supporting frame. feet sli'dably arranged in said openings and In testimony whereof I allix my signature.
' adapted to prevent relative rotary move- JAMES W. FAUGHN.
