State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful lVindow-Shade Roller, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to shade curtain rollers and has for its object the provision of a shade roller having an improved spring anchoring cap which may be formed from sheet metal.

Another object is the provision of novel means for mounting the pawls and assembling the several parts.

Further objects will present themselves as the description proceeds, it being within the province of the disclosure to improve generally, devices of that class to which the present invention belongs.

It is also to be understood, that slight changes may be made in the device, within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.

In the drawing Figure 1 is a view of the device in ele' vat-ion, there being parts shown in section.

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the numeral 1 indicates a shade curtain roll, and since the present invention relates only to the anchored end of the curtain roll, but a small portion of the roll is shown in the drawing, it being under stood that the opposite end of the roll is equipped with the usual bearing pin to provide for rotation.

The roll 1 has the usual bore 2 in which is located the spring 3, and a rod 4, on which the spring is wound, is provided with a slot 5, in which one end of the spring is anchored. The structure just described being1 that usually employed in shade curtain r0 s. i

The rod 4 hasinserted in its outer end the stem 6 of a bearing bar which is secured to the rod by means of an anchoring pin 7, a ferrule 8 surrounds the end of the'rod 4 and is reduced in diameter as shown at 30, defining a shoulder 31. is provided with notches 9 for a purpose to presently appear and the outer end thereof is reduced at 10 to form atttaching means for connection with the supporting bracket (not shown). Arms 32 are formed on the stem 6 and engage slots 33 formed in the portion 30 of the sleeve 8, the arms preventing rotation of the sleeve on the rod 4.

A cap 11 is provided with a central opening 12 in which the reduced portion 30 of the sleeve rotates. The cap '11 is provided with an inturned circumferential flange 13, the flange being of approximately the same diameter as the roll 1. Tongues 14 are stamped from opposite edges of the member 11 and turned inwardly pass through the openings 15 in a disk 16, the ends being bent to engage the disk and secure the same to the ca the edge of the disk is supported on the flange 13, forming a compartment 18 between the cap 11 and the disk 16. Pawls 19 are located in the compartment 18, the pawls having openings20 through which the tongues 14 extend, thereby providing pivotal connection for the pawls. Fingers 21 formed on the pawls are adapted to engage notches 32 cut in the reduced portion of the sleeve.

It is to be observed that the device can be formed from sheet metal of few parts and is not liable to become damaged in use.

Having thus described the invention, What is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described; a pair of members comprising a cap having a central opening and a plate spaced from the cap; a flange formed on the cap to effect the said spacing of the cap and plate; tongues formed from one of said members for connecting the two members and pawls located in the space between the cap and plate, the pawls being pivotally mounted on the tongues.

2. The combination with a curtain roll having a central bore, a rod located in the bore and a spring carried by the rod, one end of the spring being anchored to the rod, of a cap having a central opening, a plate spaced from the cap, tongues formed 011 the cap for connecting the cap and plate, pawls mounted on the tongues between the cap and plate and oppositely disposed members formed from the metal of the plate for anchorin the other end of the spring, each of said members comprising a tongue reversely bent longitudinally of the axis of the roll to form a hook, and bent circumferentially of the roll to conform to the shape of the springs.
