IMPROVEMENT IN PlE -PLATE STANDS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 70,88], dated December 7, 1875; application filed July 17, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALEXANDER MooDY, of Chicago, Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pie-Stands; and I hereby declare the following to be a ,full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,

making a part oi -this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, showing pans unlocked. Fig. 3 is a sectional view, showing device locked.

My invention relates to that class of piestands designed to hold pies for sale; and the object is to prevent the pie-plates from being stolen from the stand.

My invention consists in a device for looking or securing the plates, so that they cannot be removed, but, at the same time, have a sufficient play to allow the pies to be removed- To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I willproceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out.

In the drawings, A A represent the supports, and B B the shelves, on which the plates rest. C C are two yokes secured to the frame by the rod D, and slotted in front to receive the slide E, which is provided with the series of arms 6 e and with the lug F. Rising from the frame A are the short standards, over which is slipped the rings 12 attached to the plates, as shown in Fig. 1. In the rear of the slide E, and secured in the frame A, is a lock,

9, the bolt m of which, when thrown out by the key, passes to the slide and above the lug F, as shown in Fig. 3.

The operation of my invention is as follows: The slide E being raised, the arms 6 0 allow the rings of the plates placed on the stand to be slipped over the standards am The slide is then allowed to drop, until the arms pass below the upper point of the standard, and the lug F below the lower edge of the lockbolt. The key of the lock is then turned, and the bolt thrown out. This bolt, fitting snugly over the lug F, prevents the slide from being raised, and the arms 0 0 hold the rings 11 upon the standard, so that the plates cannot be removed. The bolt of the lock being withdrawn, the slide E is raised, and with it the arms 6 e, which releases the plates.

Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A pie stand consisting of the frame A, shelves B, and a locking device, substantially as described, whereby the pie-plates can be securely locked in position, while the pies can be removed, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
