DISPLAY-RACK FOR WHIPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent No. 470,559, dated March 8, 1892.
' Application filed May 13 1891. Serial No. 392,597. (No model.) q
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELI G. FLAOK, of Tiffin, in the county of Seneca and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Iniprovements in Display Racks for Whips; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvementin display-racks for whips; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, which willbe fully described hereinafter, and pointed out in the claim.
The object of my invention is to provide a display-rack for whips, with a means for fastening the whips in place, so that they cannot be stolen.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the whip-rack. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section of a portion thereof.
A represents two uprights of suitable length, breadth, and thickness, and which are provided with the feet B at their lower ends. These two uprights A are connected by a perforated cross-piece 0, through which the upper ends of the whips extend and with the support D, upon which the lower ends of the whips rest. Upon the top of this support D is placedthe vertical strip E, which separates the ends of the two rows ofwhips.
In order to fasten the whips in the rack in such a manner that they cannot be readily stolen while on exhibition, a clamping device for locking both rows of whips in the rack is provided. This clamping device consists of a central stationary strip G, having half-holes or notches formed in its two edges, the two movable pieces H, and the clamping-bolts I, l
' which pass through all three of the pieces, and by means of which the two outside pieces, having half-holes or notches in their inner edges only, are moved toward or from the stationary piece G, as may be desired. When the whips are to be inserted into the rack or removed therefrom, the bolts I will be turned so as to be moved or allow the outside pieces H to be moved outwardly from the edges of the center piece G. After the whips have been inserted and the rack is to be placed in some position so as to display them the two outside strips H are brought in contact with the edges of the central stationary strip G, and thus the whips will be locked in position.
This rack is very cheap, simple, and durable, and is especially adapted for use in stores and other such places where whips are to be placed on exhibition.
I do not herein claim a rack composed of a notched bar having a series of pivoted buttons to confine the articles in the notches.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- The herein-described whip-rack, consisting of the uprights, the horizontal top strip 0, provided with two series of perforations, the base strip D, provided with the vertical central strip F to separate the rows of whips, the intermediate rigid strip G, having its opposite edges recessed, the detachable strips HII, having inner edge recesses registering with recesses in strip G, and means, such as screws, separately securing said strips H H, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
V ELI G. FLACK.
