Description
s., B. coNNoLL'Y.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
`JOSEIPH B. CONNOLLY, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRIGT OF COLUMBIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CUSPADORES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 170,819. ated December 7, 1875; application filed i November 22, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Jos. B. GONNOLLY, of Washington, in the county of Washington and District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuspadores; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make andnse it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section, and Fig. 2 is a modification, of my invention.
This invention has relation to self-righting cuspadores; and consists in the provision of a counterbalancing weight located above the bottom, the object being chiefiy to render the weight readily applicable to the ordinary cuspadore, and to dispense with the expensive requirements of a cuspadore having a weight attached to the bottom.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a cuspadore of the usual form, having a fiaring mouth, B, surmountiug a broad boWI, B'. G designates the weight suspended by rods D, or other suitable means, and elevated slightly above the base, so as to leave space for the circulation of the contents or of the water used in cleaning the bowl.
There are various ways in which the Weight may be suspended. A very convenient arrangement within the spirit of my invention is to attach it to the bottom of the depending arms or tube of` a removable mouth, s'o that Weight and all may be removed and replaced together; or the weight may be attached to elastic suspending-bars, as ishown in Fig. 2, said bars being so constructed as to fit Within the aperture of the cuspadore and embrace the edge.
The form preferred of the Weight is annular, or with a central opening; but I do not limit myself to such a specific construction.
Having described my invention, I claim- 1. A self-righting cuspadore, havinga weight suspended within byrods or other devices depending from the top or throat, substantially as and t'or the purpose set forth.
2. A cuspadore made selfrighting by a weight suspended within the vessel and above its base, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. A cuspadore or other similar vessel provided With a suspended removable weight to self-right the same.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 16th day of November, 1875.
J OSEPH B. GONNOLLY.
