SPCFCATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 380,724, dated April 10, 11888.
Application filed January 7, 1888. Serial No.`260,055. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES LANGGUTH,
of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and 5 useful Improvement in Spoons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of spoons used principally for mixing and drinking medicines, 85o., which are provided with hol- Io low or tubular handles; and it consists in the construction below described, whereby the passage has its inlet at the center of the inner side of the bottom of the bowl, and its outlet at the end ofthe handle, thus providing means I5 by which the bowl, while in a horizontal position, can be completely emptied by the user.
In the accompanying drawings, in y which similar letters of reference indicatelike parts, Figure lis a View, part in elevation and part 2o in section, of my improved mixing spoon. Fig. 2is a cross vertical section of the same on line w, Fig. 1.
A represents the handle, and B the bowl, of the spoon. The handle A is tubular, a pas.
2,5 sage, C, extending its entire length and thence continuously through the wall or body of the bowl to the inlet or entrance b in the center of the inner side or bottom of said bowl. Thus a continuous passage is formed from the inlet 3) b to the outlet a, the latter being at the extreme upper end of the handle.
This spoon maybe used inthe ordinary manner to mix medicines or liquors. The desired amount having been placed in the bowl of the spoon, the end ofthe handle is inserted in the 35 mouth, and the liquid compound drawn in exactly as it is drawn through a straw or glass tube. By means of this construction the spoon, when held in the ordinary position-t1 e.,with the bowl horizontal-can be drained to the 4o last drop, the inlet b to the tubebeing exactly the place where the last drop would be located. The bowl is usually made somewhat larger than common, and can be graduated, as shown, if desired. 45
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described improved spoon, con sisting of the handle A and bowl B, said han- 5o dle and bowl being provided with the continuous passage C,whose inlet b is at the center of the inner side or bottom of the bowl, whose outlet is at the end of Athe handle, and which extends through the handle and within the 55 wall of the bowl to said inlet, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES LANGGUTH.
