Description

diam/ J. WAEHNER. NECKTIE-FASTENER.
.No. I Patented-NOV. 30,1-8 75- Wmmm v N.FETERS, PHQTO-LITHOGRAFHER. WASH NGTON o c UNITED STATES.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOHANN WAEHNER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO DANIEL RICHTER,
- OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-TIE FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,651, dated November 30, 1875; application filed July 19, .1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHANN WAEHNER, of the city, county, and State of NewYork, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Neck-Tie Fasteners, of which the following is end arranged to pass through holes in the neck-tie, bend over, and, by being pressed back, fasten thereto, and in the center a coiled spring to give the requisite elasticity. The three portions may be worked out of one piece of metal without break, or of three pieces combined, and the device itself thus used and sold as a new article of manufacture, (to be applied by the user to any article desired,) or, in combination with neck-ties of various styles, constitute an efficient and durable means of sustaining them to the neck-band or collar-band, in the place of those now in use, which are so quickly liable to become destroyed through the fraying, stretching, or cutting out of the elastic rubber bands of which they are partially or wholly composed.
Figure 1 is the device alone, as when sold as a new article of manufacture. Fig. Zisthe fastener shown in combination with the shield of a neck-tie of the butterfly pattern. Fig. 3 is the fastener shown attached to a scarf-tie.
a represents the hook end, and b represents the end to which is connected usually the shield or tie. crepresents-the spiral or coiled spring. d is the shield of a butterfly-tie, and e is the scarf-tie. I usually will make the device from one piece of metal without joints, although it may be made of separate parts. I bend metal strips or wire, of suflicient size for strength, over at the outer edge of the hook, backward and downward to the spring portion, so that the hook is double strength then I turn the spring in a close coil; next I extend one end of the wire far enough downward to permit of proper connection to the article intended to be supported thereby, which is done effectually by passing the point through holes in the article backward, forming a hook in any suitable manner by the bend of the wire.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is- 1. As a new article of manufacture, the elastic suspending-hook device composed of the parts a, b, and c, as described and set forth.
2. Incombination with the shield 01, the fastener composed of the parts a, b, and c, substantially as and for the purpose described and set forth.
JOHANN WAEHNER. In presence of- JOHN INcLIs, Jr., HENRY ELMER.
