I with rectangular corners.
UNITED STATES PATW DAVID K. OSBOURN, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
lMPROVEMENT m PAPER Boxes.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,639, dated November 30,1875 application filed September 11, 1875.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID K. OSBOURN, of the city and county of Baltimore, and State of Maryland, have invented a new and Improved Paper Box, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top view of my improved paper box opened to show construction; and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the paper box in closed position.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing, A represents a paper box The front part, F, of the paper box A has a recess, B, for admitting the ready taking hold of the sheets in the box by the thumb, the closing-flap 0 being provided with a perforation, D, by which the box may be hung directly to the wall in the water-closet, or near the stove or 'oth er place, according to the purposes for which it is required. A block, E, of rectangular triangular cross-section is placed on the bottom of the box,.fitting with its rectangular sides into one'corner, and extending through the Width of the same. The inclined side of the block extends from the front wall of the box to the rear corner, and imparts a corresponding inclination to the sheets placed thereon, so that they may be readily and conveniently taken out, one by one, 'at the upper recessed end of the box. The bottom block serves also to stifien the box and render the same more durable.
The pattern or blank, as exhibited in Fig. 1, shows the front side F, having edge flaps ff, and the back having edge flaps f f. The base of the right angle is pasted to the bottom, which connects the sides F F, and the overlapping flaps f f and f f are pasted t0 the ends of block. In this way the whole box is made of a single piece of paper, the back being provided with an extension, 0, which both serves as a cover and a means which enables it to be readily hung upon a nail or peg.
The small flaps c c and e 0 may or may not be used, as is preferred.
I am aware that metallic ticket-boxes having an inclined partition and apertures similar to that marked B have beenused, and that similar ones have been made by molding pewter-macho; but none have been made of paper from a pattern like mine, or provided with extension 0, and a block-stiffening at the bottom.
Having thus described myinvention,1claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A paper-box blank made of a single piece, having edge-flapped and bottom -connected parts F F, with aperture 13 on the latter, and extension 0, having aperture D, on the former, all as shown and described.
2. A one-piece paper box provided with back-extension O D and bottomstiffening block E, as and for the purpose specified.
DAVID K. OSBOURN.
