Description

W. eoromn.
SPRING BED-BOTTOM.
Patented Nov.16,1875.'
N3.17o,o77.
Attorney N PETERS PHOTO-LITHOGRAPNER, WASHINGION, D C.
PATENT QFFIIOE.
WILLIAM GOFORTH, OF WINDSOR, MISSOURI.
EMPROVEMENT I N SPRING BED-BOTTO MS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. I 70,077, dated November 16, 1875; application filed September 11, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM GOFORTH, of Windsor, in the county of Henry and in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring Bed-Bottoms; and do hereby declare that the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters 'of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the constructionand arrangement of the slats and springs, and the mode of hanging the springframe of a bed-bottom, as will be hereinafter set forth.
In the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a plan V View; Fig. 2, a longitudinalsection; and Fig. 3,
a detail view of one of the stirrups in which the spring-frame is hung.
In the annexed figures, A represents the head-board, and B the foot-board, 'of a bedstead. Secured to each of these are two metallic stirrups, one near each post. G 0 represent two wooden elastic bars, which form the base-bars of the spring-frame. The ends of these bars are hung in the stirrups F. D D represent auxiliary spring-bars,.which are secured to the bars 0 (J at or near their ends by means of bolts m m. They have wedgeshaped blocks interposed between them and the bars 0 0, so that they stand at a small angle to them. G G represent cross-pieces,
which are bolted to the free ends of the bars D D. The cross-pieces are provided upon their upper sides with wooden or metallic pins, which take into holes in the bed-slats E E to retain them in position. The slats are made in any of the Well-known and usual Ways. One of the bars G is hinged, as seen at a, to the bars D D, as well as bolted by the bolts d 01.
By removing the bolts 01 cl from the crosspieces G G the upper portion of the bed-bottom may be turned up, either for repairs or for the purpose of cleaning the several parts.
The slats can readily be removed and turned over, or renewed when required.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The spring bed-bars O (J, hung in stirrups F F, in combination with the auxiliary spring-bars D D, cross-pieces G G, and slats E E, constructed and arranged as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The cross-piece G, hinged and bolted to the bar D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoingI have hereunto set my hand this 20th day of August, 1875.
- WILLIAM GOFORTH. Witnesses:
