DOLLS BED.
Application filed April 1, 1925, Serial No. 20,020. Renewed June 25, 1928.
' This invention relates to improvements in articles of furnitru'e andparticularly dolls furniture.
The primary object of this invention is to provide an improved dolls bed which may be easily, quickly and cheaply constructed and which is capable of quick assembly and. disassembly, permitting the bed to be packed in a small space.
Another object of this invention is to provide an improved locking means for locking the horizontal supporting members support ing the bed to the end supportingmembers.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will be made manifest in the following detailed description and specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference is had to the accompanyingdrawings for an illustrative embodiment of the invent-ion, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the im-- proved dolls bed in set up position;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view illustrating the assembly of the dolls bed; i
*ig. 3 is a horizontal section taken substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the locking sleeve employed for locking the parts formin the bed together and Fig. 5 is a horizontal section taken substantially on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawings wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout, the improved dolls bed consists of end supporting members, generally designated at 1.0 and 11. Each supporting member is preferably formed of sheet metal or other sheet material and is bent to provide a central panel 12. The ends of the sheet are bent so as to provide tubular supporting posts 13 and 14. T slots 15 are formed in the tubular supporting posts 18 and 14. These T slots consist of horizontal slots 16 which are joined by vertical slots 17 and the angular portions or corners 18 formed by these slots are bent out, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, for a purpose hereinafter to be described. The horizontal supporting members forming the bed are generally designated at 19 and 20. These supporting members are also formed of sheet bent to provide angular horizontal supports similar in shape to an angle iron in cross section. The vertical portions 21 of the horizontal supporting mem here are provided with end portions or tongues 22 having notches 23 formed in their upper edges. The end portions 22 are cut as at 241 to permit the bending of angular lugs 25 and 26. The end portions 22 with the angular lugs 25 and 26 are capable of being received within the tubular supporting posts 13 and 14 throughthe T slots 15. It will be understood that upon placing the end portions 22 above the horizontal slots 16 the angular lugs 25 and 26 may be passed downwardly through the horizontal slots 16. The vertical slot 17 receives the end portions 22 which are in the same plane with the vertical portion 21 of the horizontal supporting memnotches 30 formed therein extending upwardly from their lower edges. The notches 30 are preferably flared, as at 31, adjacent the lower edges of the locking sleeves. At the top of each locking sleeve there may be mounted an ornamental head 32 providing a flange 33 adapted to engage the top edges of the supporting posts 13 and 14. The locking sleeves 29 are adapted to telescope within the supporting posts 13 and ltand the notches 30 are adapted to slide over or receive the end portions 22 which are disposed within the supporting posts. The lugs 25 and 26 will be disposed within the locking sleeve and the upper edge 34 of the slot 30 is adapted to enter the notch 23. In this manner the locking sleeve 29 has a notch receiving the end portion 22, which notch provides an edge receivable in the notch 23 of the horizontal supporting member. This prevents the withdrawal of the horizontal supportingmembers from the 16 and thus the bed can easily and quickly be disassembled.
From the above it will be readily appreciated that an improved article of dolls furniture is provided which may be easily, quickly and cheaply constructed and which is provided with an improved locking means for locking the horizontal rail to the end supporting members.
It will be understood that various changes in the detail of construction may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
I claim: 1
1. A dolls bed comprising end supporting members, each member being formed of sheet material and bent to provide tubular supporting posts, there being T slots formed in said supporting posts, angular horizontal supporting members having end portions presenting notches at their upper edges and having opposed angular lugs receivable through said T slots within said tubular supporting posts, and locking sleeves adapted to telescope within said supporting posts and engage said end portions so as to lock the parts together.
2. A dolls bed comprising end supportmg members, each member being formed o't sheet material and bent to provide tubular supporting posts, there being T slots formed zontal parts of said horizontal angular supporting members bearing against the parts of said end supporting members between said members, each horizontal supporting member having a tongue formed at its end with a laterally extending lug which is receivable through one of said slots, and locking members having portions capable of assuming a position between the laterally extending lugs and the end supporting members to lock the members together.
4:. An article of furniture comprising end supporting members having angular slots formed therein, horizontal supporting members arranged between said end supporting members, each horizontal supporting member having a tongue formed at its end with a laterally extending lug which is receivable through one of said slots, and locking members havin ortions ca able of assumin a position between the laterally extending lugs and the end supporting members to lock the members together, said tongues being provided on their eo es with notches adapted to receive portions of said locking members.
5. An article of furniture comprising end supporting members having T slots formed therein, horizontal supporting members arranged between the end supporting members,
each horizontal member having each of its ends provided with a. tongue on which are opposed lateral lugs receivable through the slots, and a slotted locking member having portions receivable between the lateral lugs and said end supporting members to lock the members together.
6. An article of furniture comprising end supporting members having T slots formed therein, horizontal supporting members arranged between the end supporting members, each horizontal member having each of its ends provided with a tongue on which are opposed lateral lugs receivable through the slots, there being notches formed upon said tongues, and slotted locking members having portions receivable in said notches and other portions receivable between the lateral lugs and said end supporting members to lock the members together. In testimony whereof I name to this specification.
