The objects of the invention are as fol-' low: To provide a display stand of sectional character composed of units which ma be assembled into a variety of forms; to pro vide also a unit stand complete in itself but which is capable of being easily and quickly combined with other like unit stands to form a stand assembly; to provide also a unit stand of simple construction, one possessing proper strength and rigidity, and composed of detachable parts by which it, or the parts of all assembled units when knocked down or disassembled, may be reduced to the form of a relativelyismall carton.

The invent-ion can best be seen and understood by reference to the drawing, in which Figure 1 shows in perspective an embodiment of the invention in one of its preferred forms composed of three units.

The essence of the invention resides in the construction of the individual units .of the display stand, forming as each does a display stand complete in itself, yet one capable of being combined with one or more like units to form an assembled structure. cordingly description will first be made of the individual unit referred to as a display A stand complete in itself.

The body of the stand comprises a frame 1 preferably rectangular in form and made of angle iron having. sectional parts 2 and 3. Of these the part 2 occupies a vertical posiw tion and the part 3 a horizontal position with extension inwardly from the lower end of splayed vendible commodities and 2. The frame is formed by bending the angle iron, the free ends land 5, respectively, of part 2 being made to overlap and the ends secured by riveting. The outer side or face of the frame presents a finished appearance and in order that this effect may prevail at the point of its overlapping ends, the end Jris preferably offset with relations to the end 5 as shown in Fig. 3. The frame is reinforced by crossbars 6 the ends of which overlap the sectional parts 3 of the frame along either side the'reofand are secured thereto by riveting.

Extending lengthwise the fran'ie 1 to rest upon-its Crossbars 6 and with si'lflicient extension to ovorlap the parts 3 of the frame 1 at its opposite ends is a plate 7. Thus constructed the body forms a support in the nature of a tray, the section part2 of the frame forming the sides of the tray and the section part 3 thereof supplemented by the plate '7 forming the bottom of the tray.

The body of the stand is maintained in a raised or elevated position, being mounted upon detachable legs 8. The legs are se curedto the stand body so that it may he supported by them in the following manner: V

Arranged at each of the several corners of the frame 1, where the metal is bent at substantial y right angles, are disposed posts 9 preferably tubular in form, These posts rest snugly within the bends formed by the sectional part 2 of the frame and extend through the sectional part 3 thereof. The posts are relatively short rising to a point where their tops will lie substantially flush with the top edge of the frame and with downward ext nsion to a point just below the bottom of the frame. The posts are held securely in place by the sectional part 3 of the frame through which they are one tending. To this end, and to permit also of the bendingof the angle iron of which the frame is made, the sectional part 3 of the frame is provided with notches 10 with curved ends 11 bounding the notches. with an annular groove 12. lVhenthe posts plane of the sectional part 3 of the frame, and as the frame is bent it will envelop the posts at the points of the notches and the curved ends 11 of its sectional part 3 will enter the annular grooves 12 in the posts to snugly embi ce them and thereby securely hold the posts in place. At points adjacenttheir bottom ends the legs are preferably tied together by crossbars 15. In their top sectional parts each of the posts 9 is provided with a socket 19- into which may it the bottom end of any one of the 8 of an adj l nt unit like the one above de:- ci..ibed. in other words. several unit stands having been provided they may be assembled by placing the bottom ends of the legs of a superposed unit or units within the sockets 19 of posts to units on which the mounting is made, thus permitting of considerab e variation in the assembly of units of which the assemblage of units shown in l 1 but an example.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent of the United States 1. A display stand comprising a body having a frame of angle iron with one part section arranged vertically and the other part section arranged horizontally with extension inwardly from the lower end of the vertical se tion, said horizontally arranged section having a plurality of openings, a postsecured in each of said openings, and legs detachably secured to said posts.

A display stand comprising a body having a frame of angle iron with one part section. arranged vertically and the other part section arranged horizontally with extension inwardly from the lower end of the vertical section and provided with notches at the corners of the frame, posts arranged within said notches, means for fixedly retaining the posts, and legs connecting with said posts.

3. A display stand comprising a body having a frame of angle iron with one part section arranged vertically and the other part section arranged horizontally-with extension inwardly from the lower end of the vertical section and provided with notches at the corners of the frame, posts arranged within said notches with edgeportions of said horizontal section of the frame adjacent said notches having socketed engagement with said posts, and legs connecting with said posts.

A display stand comprising a body having a frame of angle iron with one part section arranged vertically and the other part section arranged horizontally with extension inwardly from the lower end of the vertical section and provided with notches at the corners of the frame, the portions of said horizontallyextending section of the frame bounding the notches presenting curved edges, posts arranged within the notches, each of said posts being provided with an annular groove into which said curved edges extend, and legs connecting with said posts.
