2 Claims.
The present invention relates to metal display stands and has for its object the simplification of their constructioncombined with reenforcement of the stand to the end that a strong and rigid display stand may be had from a simple combination of a minimum number of metal parts and with a resulting saving in cost.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a display stand formed by bending sheet metal to provide a display floor and supporting sides and reenforcing the stand by a wire over which the supporting side walls are curled or on which the walls are otherwise secured.
Numerous other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent as it is better understood from the following description, which, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, discloses a preferred embodiment thereof.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display stand embodying the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the stand of Fig. 1 turned on one side and illustrating its bottom or under side construction;
Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the back or head of the stand;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a U-shape reenforcing wire used for strengthening the stand;
and
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional detail taken through the lower edge of one of the side supporting walls and illustrating the wall curled over the reenforcing wire.
' In display stands formed from metal it is desirable that the number of parts used to form the stand be few and that the manner of assembling the parts entail the least labor consistent with producing results in the efficient use for which the stand is intended. In the display stand illustrated in the drawing an inclined display floor is provided by bending sheet metal into the shape shown so that the floor is maintained at an incline to the horizontal and is supported by side walls which are tied together and held in fixed position by a reenforcing wire.
Such a stand is adapted for use on a counter or other suitable place from which a display may be made of articles placed on the display floor.
These articles may be the ordinary packaged goods such as small cartons or fibre boxes of candy and the like.
Accordingly, a preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a display stand having an inclined floor ll formed from a single piece of sheet metal which is bent at right angles into two supporting side walls l2 triangular in shape. The upper end of the display floor II is bent up to provide a head l3 which may be hemmed or bent back on itself at M.
A reenforcing wire 15 formed in U-shape (Fig. 4) is utilized for reenforcing the display stand and for tying all parts in a rigid construction, its legs l6 being embedded in the lower edges of the sides l2. Each side wall is curled inwardly at I! (Fig. 5) for-this purpose where it engages and tightly holds a leg l6 of thewire l5. A central portion l8 of the reenforcing wire I5 extends across and between the side walls l2 (Figs. 2
and 3) and this construction holds the walls l2 parallel.
A foot member 2| (Figs. 1 and 2) may be combined with the display floor II and the two side walls l2 to provide a bottom support for the articles resting on the display floor. The foot member 2i comprises a front wall 22 which is bent back in a short vertical rear wall 23 thence merging into an inclined supporting shelf wall 24 which in turn is bent down at its ends into triangular side walls 25.
The foot member 2| is preferably connected with the display floor I I in a tongue and slot joint best illustrated in Fig. 2. To provide such a joint the lower edge of the display floor H is bent up in a flange 26 which is slotted at 21 on the corner of the bend. The wall 24 at its rear and bottom edge rests on top of the floor I I extending down into the bend and this bottom edge is formed with a pair of extending tongues 28. In the finished joint the tongues 28 project through the slots 21 and are bent back and up under the flange 26 as shown, thus locking the parts securely as a unit. The lower edges of the triangular walls 25 are also curled around the ends of the legs l6 of the reenforcing wire l5 as at 29.
This construction provides a supporting shelf at the bottom for the articles to be displayed and a display floor I I on which the articles rest. The walls 23, 24 cooperate with the display floor for holding the articles and thus prevent them from sliding down out of place.
It is sometimes desirable to break up the full expanse of the display floor II by a second supporting shelf member 3|. This member may be formed from a single piece of sheet metal and comprises a supporting shelf section 32 which is bent at a slight angle at its upper part into a flange 33. The wall part 32 is also bent at substantially right angles adjacent its lower edge to provide a flange 34, the ends of which are bent down to form lugs 35 (Fig. 2).
The display floor II is slotted at 36 and the supporting shelf member 3| when secured in final position rests with its lugs 35 projecting through the slots, 2. lug being located alongside of the inner surface of each side wall l2. Rivets 31 passed through the two lugs 35 and the adjacent side walls l2 form the necessary securing elements.
The shelf member 31 like the foot member 2| assists in holding the articles in display on the display floor ll, its walls 32, 33 likewise cooperating with the display floor to retain the articles in proper position in the upper part of the stand.
The open construction, ofuthe stand permits easy removal of the articles from display position. The reenforcing wire l5, cooperating with the various parts of the display stand, ties these parts together in a rigid structure. Its simplicity provides for a saving in material and assembling costs.
It is thought that the invention and many of its attendant advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and it will be apparent that various changes maybe made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention or sacrificing all of its material advantages, the form hereinbefore described being merely a preferred embodiment thereof.
I claim: I
1. A metal display stand comprising an inclined display floor for sustaining articles to be displayed, triangular supporting sides formed integrally with said floor and extending at right angles thereto for holding the floor in its inclined position, a foot member secured to the lower end of said display floor, a V-shaped reenforcing wire I having a portion of its legs embedded in the lower edges of said foot member, other portions of said legs being embedded in the outer edges of said triangular supporting sides of said display floor, the mid-portion of said reenforcing wire extending across the back of the stand for strengthening it and for holding the said sides and foot member rigid, and supporting shelves secured to said display hour and extending at an angle thereto for cooperating with said floor to hold the articles in display position.
2. A metal display stand comprising an inclined display floor for sustaining articles to be displayed, triangular supporting sides formed integrally with said floor and depending at right angles thereto .for holding'the floor in its inclined position, said sides terminating at their free edges in curled portions, a single U-shaped reenforcing wire having its opposite leg members confined within said curled portions in a horizontal plane, the central portion of said wire extending across the back of the stand at the bottom thereof for strengthening it and for holding the said sides rigidly spaced apart, and supporting shelves secured to said display floor and extending at an angle thereto for cooperating with said floor to hold the articles in display position.
