Description

J. w. Lucana & M. E. DUNHAM. Y
' GAUNTLET-GLovE.
VI\T@.169,4;51. l Patented N0v.z,1e75.
UNITEE STATES PATENT OYEEICEo JOHN W. LATGHER AND MOSES E. DUNHAM, OF JOHNSTOWN, NEW YORK; SAID LATGHER ASSIGNOR TO SAID DUNHAM.
IMPROVEMENT IN GANTLET-GLOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,451, dated November 2, 1875; application filed August 11, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN W. LATGHER and MosEs E. DUNHAM, residents of Johns town, in thecounty ofFulton and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Grlove-Y Gantlet, of which the following is a specification:
The object of our invention is to prevent the gantlet-cui' from lopping down over the hand of the wearer, by having the wrist of the glove proper extend upward as far as the upper edge or extremity of the cutf or farther, and applying buttons or other fastvnings to the said wrist-extension within tlnl outer cuff, in order to keep the wrist of the wearer protected from cold, &;c., and to prevent the said outer cut't from lopping down, which has been the result when thefastenings were below the edge ofthe cuff where the saine is united with the wrist of the glove. Another object of our invention is to prevent the inner surface ofthe gantletou' from iliscoloringthe dress sleeves and cutis by interposing a detachable and washable enii", and attaching the same wit-hin the outer or gantlet cuff, above referred to, and the wristextension, and allowing the auxiliaryeuff to extend outward somewhatfarther than either the wrist-extension or the gantlet-eui',in order to prevent the gantlet-ouf from coming in Contact with the sleeves of the dress. The auxiliary cuff should be made of some suitable textile material, of course, in order thatit may be washed, 85o., after having become soiled by contact with -the culi' of the glove or gantlet, on its outer surface, and the dresssleeve on its inner side.
To enable those skilled in the artto fully understand and construct the saine, we, will proceed to describe it as follows Figure l is a perspective view of our invention, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view ofthe same, exhibiting the arrangement of the several parts with relation to each other.
A represents the body of the glove, 8vo. C, the Wrist-extension of the same; D, the outer or gantlet eui', which is attached to the wrist of the glove about the saine distance from the nger end of the glove, as heretofore, allowing an extension of the inner wrist G one or more inches upward, or nearly even with the eui D,as shown in the drawings. One or more butt-ons or fastenings, e, are axed to the Wristextension C, as shown, in order to keep the` outer cuff D from lopping down over the hand by reason of the leverage exerted on the button or fastening e. as will be readily understood. rlhe wristextension C, when buttoned, also keeps the wrists warmer.
We also applya detachable or auxiliary cuff, F, to the cuff l), or Wrist-extension O, by means of hooks and eyes, or any suitable fastening. Said cuit is made, preferably, of textile material, either embroidered or plain, or it may be ruffled, in 'order that it may the more shield the wrist of the wearer. Said culil F is made detachable, in order that it may be washed when it shall have become soiled by Contact with the cuff D, or in any other way. The cuff F should be made iexible, in order that it may readily yield to the dress-sleeve, &c.
What we claim as our invention isl. In a glove or gantlet, the wrist-extension C and fastenin gs e e, when arranged with relation to the cuff D, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. In combination With the cu" D and extension O, as shown and described, the detachable culi' F, as set forth.
J. W. LATCHER. MOSES E. DUNHAM.
