Description

u. SCHNEIDER, Printing-Machine.
No. 169,301, Patentedocnzamvs.
j 152% g/Mft@ UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE` CHARLES SCHNEIDER, CE NEWARK, NEw JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLUTINGNICHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,301, dated October 26, 1875; application filed March 13, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES SCHNEIDER, of the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fluting- Machines 5 and I do hereby declare that'the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature and object of this invention is-to facilitate the operation of iuting dress-goods and securing uniformity in the action of the several parts of the mechanism employed for the purpose. The invention consists in the peculiar construction and operation of the apparatus, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
The bottom iiuted roll A is adjustable, having its bearin gs in the grodved slides B, which are raised and lowered by means of a cam or cams, C, secured to a shaft, D, passing through said slides or bearings B, and operated by means of a crank, E, the cams C resting upon the base-plate A. The top fluted roll B is held by, and revolves in, the arms F, said arms being provided with Shanks a, and held and secured in the socket-arms G, which project from the elbow H, as shown, by means of pins b, or other suitable device. The sockets in said arms G are enlarged below the top, so as to receive a coiled spring, c, which has a bearing at the top of the socket, and against a shoulder at the bottomof the shank above referred to, said shoulder corresponding in size with said enlargement of the socket in the arm G. The object of said springs is to relieve the rigidity of the top roll B when in the act of tluting, and to give the requisite pressure upon the fabrics.
- Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat-- ent, is-
A uting-machine consisting of the luted roller A, slides or bearings B, cams C, upper iluted roller B', arms F, having the Shanks a, and socketed arms Gr, provided with the springs vc, the several parts being constructed, combined, and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention, I aix hereto my signature in presence of two witnesses.
I CHARLES SCHNEIDER.
