Description
A.. M. WILSON. Washing-Machines.
Patented August 26, 1873.
No. U12-,313.
\ of my machine in side elevation.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR M. WILSON, OF WHITE PIGEON, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF HIS RIGHT v'I O WILLIAM R. GILLETT, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,313, dated August 26, 1873; application led May 31, 1813.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR M. WILsoN, of White Pigeon, in the county oi' St. Joseph and' State ot' Michigan, haveinvented a new and valuable Improvement in Washing-Machine; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the saine, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same; and Fig. 3 is a section through one of the end pieces of the frame.
This `invention has relation to a washingmachine; and the novelty consists in the construction of a frame having a number of slots and rollers, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
A A represent the side pieces, which, with 4suitable connecting-bars, form the frame of my machine. In the center of each side piece A, from the top downward, is a vertical slot, a., of suitable width to receive boxes b b, and from the bottom of said slot a. extends downward a narrower vertical slot,cl, to receive the journals d d of the large corrugated or lluted washing-roller B. On each side above this roller B is a smaller roller, C, similarly corrugated or iluted, and the journals e e or' these latter rollers rest in inclined slots a2 c2. On top of each journal e is placed a spiral spring, f, which is heldl down by means of a pin, h, as shown in Fig. 3. By means of the pins 71. h the tension of the springs f f may be increased or reduced at will, so as to regulate the pressure of the upper smaller rollers C C on the lower larger roller B, according as thick or thin garments are to be passed through and washed. In the bottom of each slot a' is placed a spiral spring, f', upon which the lower box b rests. The journals of the two wringer-rollers D D have their bearings in the boxes b b, and the pressure of said rollers is regulated by means of set-screws 7c k, operating on top of the upper boxes.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the side pieces A A, having slots a al c2, small rollers c c arranged above the large roller B, springs f f, and regulating-pins h 71., operating in the manner as specied and shown.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
