Description

LOUIS FABRE.
Improvement i-n Washing-Machines.
N0. 125,324, Patented Apr\30,l872.

PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS PARRE, OF MENDOTA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,324, dated April 30, 187 2.
SPECIFICATION.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS PARRE, of Mendota, in the county oi' La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in VVashing-Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had t0 the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention has for its object the production oi' a washing-machine which shall be simple in its construction, and yet be capable in operation of washing quickly and easily without injury to the clothes.
In the drawing, Fig. l represents a longitudinal sectional elevation, and Fig. 2 a transverse sectional elevation of my improved washin g-machine.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe 'ully its construction and manner of 0peration.
A represents the box or case, which is supported upon any suitable standards a a, as shown. B represents a frame, having rollers b b hung in suitable bearings in its sides, which frame receives a reciprocating movement from levers C C, pivoted at c to the sides of the case. The lower ends of these levers rest in recesses in the sides of the frame, and are slotted to inclose a pin attached to the frame, as indicated in Fig. l, by which means connection is made between the levers and the frame. The upper ends of the levers are united by a cross-bar, c', Fig. 2. D represents a rubbingboard, centrally pivoted to the perpendicular arms of the bent frame E e F f, which frame has journals at the point of union of its perpendicular and horizontal arms, as shown at Fig. 2. The horizontal arms are pivoted at Fig. 1, to a slide, g, moving in ways g g', as shown. H represents a handle, attached to the cross-bar c', which handle is connected to the frame E e F f, carrying the rubbing-board D, by means of the connecting-bar I.
The operation is somewhat as follows: The water and clothing to be washed having been placed in the case, the handle H is given a forward-and-backward movement by the operator. This movement of the handle, through the levers C, gives a reciprocating movement to the frame B, and also to the frame E e Ff, but in opposite directions, one being connected above and the other below the pivoted points of the levers. In addition to the reciprocating movement, a downward pressure is exerted upon the rubbing-board by means of the connecting-rod I. This pressure may be regulated at will by the operator who actuates the handle H. The clothing is manipulated between the rubbing-board and rollers, and all dirt is thus extracted without injury to it.
The machine as a whole is simple in its construction, and is well adapted for the purpose for which it is intended.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The combination of the frame E e F f, the pivoted rubbing-board D, and the slides, as described.
2. The combination of the levers C, frames B E e Ff, board D, slide g, handle H, and rod I. the said combination being such as to render capable a reciprocating movement of the frame, and also a vertical movement of the rubbing-board, as described.
This specification signed and witnessed this 9th day of March, 1872.
LOUIS PARRE.
