Description
S. K. ELLIS.
Suspenders.
Patented Oct. 26, I875.
KER. WASH UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STEPHEN K. ELLIS, OF WALTHAM, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPENDERS. 4
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,245, dated October 26, 1875; application filed July 19, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known that I, STEPHEN K. ELLIS, of Waltham, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a suspender or supporter for holding a diaper or other article used by women during the period of the menses, of which the following is a full, clear,'and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a suspender constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a modification to be referred to.
The object of my invention is to provide a means of holding a diaper or other'article in place during the monthly period of women; and consists in a suspender or supporter passing over the shoulders of the wearer, and provided with a pin or other device for securing the diaper or other article in place.
To enable others skilled in the art to understand and use myinvention,1 will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.
In the said drawings, AA represent two straps, of elastic or non-elastic material, se-
cured together as seen at a, the opposite ends of these straps passing through loops 1), and
being provided with sliding buckles B to ad- 'just the straps lengthwise. To each of the I looped straps D E slides apin,-d, or other device for holding in place a diaper or other article used by women during the monthly period. The straps A, which pass over the shoulders of the wearer, are provided with a the straps D E would be provided with sliding buckles for adjustability, as seen in Fig. 2.
I prefer to make the suspender as above described; but it may be made of one continuous piece of webbing, and fastened together at one end, in which case the connection in the back would be made to slide upon the straps or be dispensed with altogether, and the elastic ends to which the pins or other fastenings are attached would be provided with sliding buckles, as above described.
It will be seen by the employment of my suspender all bands or belts which encircle the waist of the wearer, and which are of a serious injury, are dispensed with, while the suspender can be worn with much more comfort and ease, and without injury, the diaper or other article being supported entirely from the shoulders. v
What I claim as my-invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The straps A, connecting-piece F, straps D, E, and G, constructed and arranged substantially as shown, for the purpose set forth. 2. In combination with the subject-matter of the above, a pin or other fastening device,
for the purpose described.
Witness my hand this 3d day of July,A. D.
. STEPHEN K. ELLIS.
In presence of- DANIEL FRENCH,
W. J. CAMBRIDGE.
