This invention relates tonew and useful Vin'iprevements in bracket constructions and corporated in its constructiona detachable clam ad'ustabl su i1 ortino' a foldable bracket member Which can be quickly andV readily place-d in inoperative position or folded into a compaot form so as to occupy a minimum amount of space whereby the same may be conveniently carried and kalways be readyfor use. y
A. further object of my invention is Vthe provision of a novel type of clamp member which is particularly adapted for use in connection with a foldable bracket' and so constructed that the clamp may be quickly and readily attached to any stationaryobjeet; such as, a chair or the like and be positioned either in a vertical or horizontal plane and will accommodate the supporting standard of the foldable bracket whereby to support the bracket in various adjusted positions.
lith the above andother objectsin View, the invention consistsin the novel features of construction,V the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafterl more fully set forth, pointed out'in the claim and shown'in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my improved supporting bracket illustrating` the same in operative position, WithV the main support ing Varm illustrated in an inoperative position in dotted lines, Y
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation, n
Fig. 3 is a top plan View ofthe clamping member,
Fig. 4C is a ldetail section thru the pivotal connection between the supporting standard and the bracket arm, and Y Fig. 5 is a detail transverse section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
Referring moreoparticularly to the drawings in which my invention is clearly illustrated, the numeral 1, in the present instance,
indicates the back of a chair, preferably a high-chair such asused by small children. ittaehed'to the baclr 1 ar-U the supportingl as 2 of a tray or the like which are pivotally conne :ted to the bach 1 and adapted to be swung upwardly above The improvedclamp used in the present instance for adjustably supporting the fold able `Lraelet comprises a body member 3 hay74 spaced transverse openings it and longtithe top of the baclr.
tudnzal openings 5 which are formed in the inturned flanges of the body and formed integral with the closed Wall of the body 3 is a boss 6 thru Whi i is threaded a thumb screw hrm/ingloosely connected to itsinner end a clamp bar 8 which cooperates lwith theflanee 'r 9 for clamping the body 1 to the back or side of a chair. Y The body 3 has formed upon one side thereof anangular extension' 10 which includes the flange 9 arranged parallel with the body 3.
Each one ofthe pair of openings Zland 5 is provided with a colla-r 11 upon the exterior of the body 3 and which is provided in its outer face with a plurality or radialrecesses 12 adapted to'cooperate vvith the diametri` cally opposed lugs 18 formed on the lower face ofthe collar 14 which is carried by the supporting standard 15 for retaining the standard 15 against rotary movement. The standard 15 isprovi'ded with 'a plurality of spaced openings 16 and in order to retain the collar 111 in various positions upon the standard, a pin 17 extendsl transversely thru the collar 14- and thru anyone of the openings 1G. From this is Will be apparent that when the lower end of the supporting standard 15 is inserted thru either set of alignedyopenings f1 and 5 the lugs in the collar 111 Will cooperate with the radial recesses 12 on the collars fll'for supportingv the standard 15 against rotary movement or longitudinal movement with respect to the clamp 3. y
The upper end of the supporting standard 15is provided with a sleeve 18 andthe inner end of the supporting arm 19 is provided with spaced sleeves 2O adapted to be aligned with the sleeve 18 on the upper end of the standard 15 and a pintle 21 passing therethrough to form pivotal connection betvveen the standard 15 and the bracket arm 19. The outer end of the bracket arm is provided with a plurality of supporting members 22 which may be of any design and formed integral with the arm 19 adjacent its pivoted end are the spaced fingers 23 one of which forms a stop adapted to abut the standard 15 inorder to support the arni 19 in a horizontal position as shown in Figure l. lThe other finger 23 toi-ins a rest tor the tray ot a high-chair when the saine is in a raised position. Tis the tray ofthe chair is raised arni 19 is raised slightly" to perniit the tray to pass beneath the linger 28 reino-te 'troni the standard 15, after which arni 19 is released. rlhis positions the upper portion ot` the tray between tine/ers 23, the inner one ot which torins a raise i or step elenient which holds the tray raised and eliini* nates possibility of the tray dropping and strikino' a child ieing placed in or removed from the high chair.
It will be apparent i'iroin the loregoinfi` that yI have provided an improved supporting,`
bracket'ivhicli is especially adapten for use Yin supporting; if'arious articles tor use by iiitants and the crevice is so eonstructed that it niay be quickly and readily attached or detached in supporting position and alsoiiiay be quickly and readily Jolded into coinpactforin 'for use in travelling.
While have shown and described the preierred embodiment et iny invention3 it will be understood that various changes and al- I -ti ally terations may be made Without departing troni the spirit ot the invention or the scope oit the appended elaiin.
Having thus described my invention, Whatl claim is:
ln combination with a chair havinga pivoted tray nieniber thereon7 a clamp removably secured to the back of said chair, a standard adj ustably supported by said clamp, a bracket arni having one end tliei'e'oit pivotallyconnected to the upper end ot said standard and.
adapted tolie in parallel relation with said standard when in inoperative position, and spaced fingers carried by said bracket' arni In testimony whereof I afiix iny signature.
JOHN A. 'riesige to said standard,l said linger
