UNITE owner-1.
FRANK A. MCGUIRE, or IoLA, KANSAS.
TRAY HOLDER FOR BEDS.
Application iled September 8, 1923. Serial No. 661,664.
being to so construct the parts that there is no danger of the device tipping over and to make the holder easily adjustable upon its support so that it can be placed in the desired position in front of the patient.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter. fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which z Figure l is an elevation of the device.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure l.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4 4 of Figure l.
Figure 5 ure 2.
In these views, l indicates a base which is provided with casters 2 so that it may be easily moved from place to place. A rod 3, preferably of square shape in cross section, is connected with the central part of one end of the base and the upper 'end of said rod is provided with a hook 4: for holding a water bottle or other article. A sleeve 5, provided with a squarebore for receiving the rod, is held in adjusted position on the rod by a set screw 6. A tube 7 is carried by the sleeve, said tube passing through apair of depending pieces 8 on a table 9 so that the table is rotatably supported on the tube. The tube carries a toothed wheel 10, the teeth of which are adapted to be engaged by a pin 11 on one of themembers 8 for holding the table in adjusted position on the tube. The table-is slidably mounted on the tube so that the pinV can be moved out of is a -section on line 5-5 of Figengagement with the toothed wheel to permit the table to be adjusted but said table normally held in a position withthe pin in engagement with the toothed wheel by means of a curved arm l2 on the table en#y gaging a spring 13 in the tube.
In order to adjust Athe table on the tube, it is simply necessary'to press it inwardly to free the pin from the toothed wheel andy thus permit the table to be moved toits desired position. The spring will then move the table to its normal position with the pin in engagement with the toothed wheel. The
' table is also adjusted vertically by moving the sleeve 5 on the upright so that it can be adjusted to suit thevpatient. The table can support a tray, a book or magazine or it can be used as a writing table. The arrangement of the upright on the support prevents the device from tipping under the weight placed upon the table.
Itr is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my inventionwill be readily apparent. Y
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changesV fall within the scope of the appended claim.
lI/Vhat I claim is A A device of the class described comprising a wheeled base, an upright of square. shape in'. cross section connected with one endV of ythe base, a sleeve having a square. bore receiving said upright, a set screw for holding the sleeve in adjusted position on the upright, a tube'carried by the sleeve, a table, depending pieces thereon having holes therein through which the tube passes, so that the table is slidably and rotatably mounted on the tube, a toothed disc fixed to the tube adjacent one of the depending pieces, a pin on one of the ydepending pieces and arranged to engage one of the teeth of the disc to hold the table in adjusted posi-V tion'7 a bracket on the table and a spring'in the tube and connected with the bracket for normally holding thetable in a position with the pin in engagement'with the tooth of the disc.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
