UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LULU A. MYERS, OF BAILEY, COLORADO.
DOLL.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LULU A. MYERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bailey,
in thecounty of Parkand State of Colorado,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a D011, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toys and the primary object of the invention is to provide a head, arms and legs removable, so that other forms of arms and legs can be associated with doll, thereby forming a doll in which the posture thereof can be changed at will be interchanging the different forms of arms and legs, thus providing a toy which will be particularly attractive to children.
are freely heads,
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a doll of this character embodying a provided with bearing spindles and a sectional body for receiving said spindles, the sections of the body being detachably connected together to permit the free removal of the head, arms and legs from the body when desired or to permit other forms of heads, arms and legs to be associated therewith.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved doll of the above character, which will be durable and efiicient in use, one which will be simple and cheap to manufacture, and one which can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.
With these and other objects'in View the invention consists in the novel construction arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, drawings:
Figure l is a front elevation of the improved doll with the front section of the body removed, to illustrate the means of conn'ectin the head, the arms and the legs with the b y. v
Figure 2 is a longitudinally sectional view through, the doll showing the body ofthe doll in side elevation.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one form of arm which can be used with the body of the doll.
Figure 4 is an elevation of another form of head which can be used with the body of the doll.
forming a part thereof, in which- Figure 5 is a side elevation of the doll showing difierent types of arms and legs associated with the body thereof.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several viewsthe letter A generally indicates the improved doll which includes a body or trunk portion 10. This body or trunk portion is divided longitudinally to provide a front section 11 and a rear section 12. The body 11 is of a hollow or shell formation for a purpose, which will be hereinafter more fully understood as the description proceeds.
The sections 11 and 12 are adapted to be detachably connected together by some means which will permit ofthe quick separation and connection of the sections and as shown, the section 12 is provided with pivoted hooks 13 which are adapted to engage eyes 14 carried by the section 11. The sections 11 and 12 at their upper ends are provided with mating semi-circular bearing recesses 15 and at the side edges adjacent to their upper ends with semi-circular mating bearing notches or recesses 16 and at their side edges adjacent to the lower end of the body with semi-circular mating bearing recesses 17.
When the sections 11 and 12 are placed together these semi-circular recesses form true circular bearing openings for the recept on of the head member 18, the arms 19 and the legs 20.
The head 18 is constructed to simulate a girl and it is tobe understood that a head 21 can be substituted therefor which .is constructed to simulate the appearance of a boy. Of course otherqforms of heads other than the heads 18 and 21 can be associated with the body 10. The neck portions of the heads 18 and 21 are provided with depending axlally disposed cylindrical bearing members 22 which are adapted to rotatably fit within the bearing recesses 15. In order to prevent the removal of the heads when the same are associated with the body 10 when the sections 11 and 12 are connected together, the lower ends of the members 22 are provided with disk-shaped enlargements or collars 23 which are adapted to engage the inner surface of the body 10.
The arms 19' are shown to hang straight down, but it is to be understood that other forms of arms can be substituted therefor and in Figure 5 of the drawing I have shown arms 24 which are bent at the elbow portions thereof. The upper terminals of both forms of arms 19 and 20 are provided with inwardly extending cylindrical bearing members 25 which are adapted to be placed in semi-circular bearing recesses 16 forming the sections 11 and 12 and these members also can disk-shaped enlargements or collars 26 w ich prevent the accldental removal of the arms when the sections 11 and 12 of the body 10 are connected together.
The legs 20 are shown tobe of a straight type and thus when these legs are associated with the doll the same will be given a standing posture, but it is to be understood that other forms of legs may be substituted therefor such as the le 26 as shown in Figure 5 of the drawing. The legs 26 are bent at the knees as clearly shown in Fi ure 5 of the drawing and thus when these egs are associated with the doll body the doll would be given a sitting posture.
T e upper terminals of the legs 20 and 26 are provided with inwardly extending cylindrical bearin members which are adapted to rotatably t in the semi-cylindrical hearing openings 17 of the sections 11 and 12 and these members are provided with stop flanges or collars 28 to prevent the accidental disp acement thereof from the body 10 when the sections are connected together.
In use of the improved doll the sections 11 and 12 are disconnected by operating the latches 13 after which the desired legs, arms and head members are associated with the body and'the sections are then placed togeth-- er and the latches 13 moved into engagement with the eyes 14. It can be seen that the head 18 is free torotate and the arms and leg members free to swing on the body.
By this construction a doll will be presented, which will be particularly attractive to children in that the different arms, leg and head members can be interchanged when so desired.
The doll can be made of any desired material such as wood, metal, or papier mach.
Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention.
What I claim as new is:
l. A-doll comprising a hollow body including a front and a back section, means for detachably connecting the sections of the body together, the sections havin mating bearing recesses formed in the meeting edges thereof, a head, arms and legs associated with the body, and inwardly extending bearing members carried by the head,'arms and legs for fitting in said bearing recesses.
2. A doll comprising a body including a front section and a rear section, the meeting edges of the sections being provided with mating bearing recesses, means for detachably connecting the sections of the body together, a head, arms and legs for the body, inwardly extending cylindrical bearing members carried by the head, arms and legs for fitting in said bearing recesses, and diskshaped enlargements formed on the inner ends of the bearing members for preventing the accidental displacement of the head, arms and logs from the body when the sections thereof are connected together.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a doll comprising a hollow body and removable and interchangeable arms, legs and a head for the body, the body including a front and a back section, means detachably connecting the sections together, the sections having mating bearing recesses formed in the meeting edges thereof, bearing pins carried by the head, arms and legs arranged to fit in said bearing recesses, and enlargments formed on said bearin pins having a greater diameter than the bearing recesses for engaging the inner surface of the hollow body for preventing the accidental displacement of the head, arms and legs upon the body when the sections thereof are detachably connected together.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
Mns. LULU A. MYERS. Witnesses:
Mrs. ADA OCoNNoR, O. C. ROYAL.
