United States Patent O 3,475,852 COMBINED GARMENT HANGER AND HOLDER AND TOY Doris A. Brosk, 150 E. 69th St.,
New York, N.Y. 10021 Filed July 5, 1966, Ser. No. 562,853 Int. Cl. A6311 13/00 U.S. Cl. 46-116 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A garment hanger incorporating a stuffed toy, which may have a receptacle therein to contain small items, to be used by a child as a toy as well as a hanger.
This invention is a combined garment hanger and holder and stuffed toy.
One of the principle objects of the present invention is to provide an improved device which incorporates utility and recreation, and which functions as a garment hanger Iand holder and stuffed toy.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a device designed to be utilized as a holder for a garment, either for display purposes or for home use, and which, in an embodiment thereof, incorporates therein a receptacle for containing therein small items or articles, the device being usable by a child as a plaything.
Yet another object of the present invention is to construct such device in such manner that the garment may be correctly supported and maintained thereon.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a combined utilitarian and recreational device of the ,aforementioned class, which is economical, efficient, practical and aesthetic.
These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will appear as the description proceeds, it being understood, however, that it is not intended that the invention .be limited to the exact details described herein which illustrate the production of satisfactory examples of many which may be obtained as a result of the knowledge gained through or gleaned from an understanding of the invention and it is further intended that there be included as part of the invention all such obvious changes and modications thereof as would occur to a person skilled in the art to which this invention pertains and as would fall within the scope of the claim appended hereto.
1n the drawings:
FIG. 1 is an elevational view of a combined garment hanger and holder and stuffed toy, according to the invention;
FIG. 2 is a vertical section through 2 2 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3' is a fragmentary elevational view of the back of the device, according to the invention (depicting the receptacle seen in FIG. 4);
FIG. 4 is a vertical section through 4-4 of FIG. 3;
FIG. 5 is a plan view of a member for forming the receptacle seen in FIG. 4;
FIG. 6 is an elevational view of the front of the device seen in FIG. 1, a garment thereon being seen in phantom outline; and
FIG. 7 is a vertical section similar to FIG. 2, but depicting the invention in a modified form.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, numeral 10 generally indicates a combined garment hanger and holder and stuffed toy in a unitary structure comprising a body simulating portion 11, at one end of which depends the lower limbs or legs simulating portion 12 and from the upper portion of which extends a face and head simulating portion 13. Extending upwardly from 3,475,852 Patented Nov. 4, 1969 ICC portion 13 is hook portion 14 forming the garment hanger. Between body portion 11 and face and head portion 13 horizontally extend the shoulders and upper limbs or arms representation 15 which join with the head and face portion 13 and at the juncture of which there is provided a pair of oppositely and inwardly directed, substantially V-shaped cut-outs or notches 16.
In practical application, the garment, such as a dress 17, vis adjusted on the device with shoulder portions 18 thereof being supported by the shoulders simulating portions 19. The garment may be displayed in a store.
It can be seen that the device may accommodate different sizes of garments, particularly garments for children. The device carrying the dress may be hung on a conventional bar or rod in a store by means of hook 14. When the garment is purchased by the customer, the device may kbe included with the purchase of the garment. The device may be then used by the wearer of the dress as a toy or doll as is, or for the purpose of dressing the toy or doll in various garments which may be available to the child.
It is understood that the device may assume any desired form and illustrate an animal, as indicated in the drawing, or possibly a child. The reference to the term doll in the specification and claims may comprise a representation of an animal, child or any fanciful gure.
Referring once again to the drawing, the device which is a relatively flat combined garment holder and hanger and toy or doll, comprises a stufling or inner member or body 20, and outer front and back members 21, 22, respectively. Inner member 20 maybe made of any suitable material, such as foam rubber, cellulose or other suitable fibrous or plastic material which preferably extends the entire length and Width of the device, including hanger portion 14, head and face portion 13, and body and limbs portions 11, 12 and 15. Outer front and back members 21, 22 are preferably made of plastic or plastic coated material which are joined together preferably by a heatsealed seam, such as by means of a thermal sealing process.
As seen in the drawing, there may be provided at the front or back of the device, preferably above shoulders portions 18, a receptacle or pocket 24. Pocket or receptacle 24 is preferably made of a contoured sheet 25 of plastic or plastic coated material composed of two substantially identical parts 25a, 25b, folded along a medial line 26 and then heat-sealed to back member 22 along the edges 27 and, if desired, along the medial line 26.
It is understood that in lieu of heat-sealing, stitching may be used for the seam. l
As shown in FIG. 7, the device may be stitfened or reinforced yby interposing between two layers 20a, 20b of cellulose, plastic or other suitable material, a plate 28 made of cardboard, berboard or the like.
Although the drawings and the above specification disclose the best modes in which the embodiments of the invention are contemplated, it is desired in no Way to be limited to details of such disclosure, for further practical application of the invention may be made as circumstances require or experience suggests without departing from the spirit of the invention within the Scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
1. Combined garment hanger and holder and doll in the form of a relatively flat, integral unit, said unit comprising a body simulating portion, head and face simulating portion extending from one end of said body, upper limbs simulating portion connected to said body simulating portion and head and face simulating portion, lower limbs simulating portion connected to said body simulating portion, an extension portion from said head and face simulating portion, said extension portion constitutes la hanger means for said garment, said unit being constituted of a resilient inner body, outer members, front and back, respectively, said unit being seamed along its entire periphery, a flat stiffening member positioned within said resilient inner body, and means forming a pocket secured to one of said outer members, said outer members comprising plastic material, land said members being secured along their entire periphery by a heat-sealed seam.
