Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE. v
DANIEL BABCELLOS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-BRACKETS.
`Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,705, dated October 1.1, 1875; application filed January 12, 1874.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL BAEcELLos, of Brooklyn, E. D., Kings county, New York, have invented. an Improvement in Lamp- Brackets, of which the following s a specification:
My lamp-bracket is made for holding a glass lamp by a lateral projection or trunnion, so that the body of the lamp does not interfere with the light passing down immediately beneath it; but, on the contrary, the body of the lamp acts as a lens to concentrate the rays of light beneath it.
In the drawing, A represents a table or the bed of a sewing-machine, to which the base c of the bracket is attached, either by screws or by a yoke, with a screw below the table.
The vertical round rod B rises from this base o, and around it is the tubular portion E of the bracket I, which bracket is made of the curved brace g, top piece f, and connectingbar h. There is a nut, m, upon the upper end of the round rod B, by which the bracket can be clamped when it has Vbeen turned around to the proper position, and a screw, s, serves also to securethe parts. The lamp N is made of glass with a gudgeon or round handle, o, projecting from one side, and this handle o is received into the clamp P at the end of the bracket so as to be held firmly by such clamp when adjusted.
It will seldom be necessary to provide for raising or lowering the lamp, or for extending the length of the bracket, but devices for this object may be added.
y The lamp being free from any ring or other device around it that will cast a shadow, and the reservoir being of glass, the light will be intense below the lamp, and hence the iinprovem ent is especially available with sewingmachines, writing-desks, 85o.
I claim as my invention- The lamp-bracket, made of the standard c B, tube E, arm f, braces g h, in combination with the lamp N, trunnion o, and clamp P, substantially as set forth.
This specification signed this 5th day of January, 1874:.
