UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANCIS ED MEYER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LAM P-REFLECTO R.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 226,412, dated April 13, 1880,
Application filed December 4, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS ED MEYER, of the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lam p- Refiectors, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a side view of a lamp and glass chimney with my improvement, the reflector and mirror combined being shown in section attached thereto. Fig.2 is a rear view of the reflector and mirror combined and portion of the frame by which it is affixed to the lamp. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the clamp, by which the reflector, combined with a mirror or lookingglass and its adjustable frame-work, can be aflixed to any size lamp.
The object of my invention is to construct a lamp-reflector that can be attached to any lamp, and can also be adjusted to the right focus, as well as to reflect the light in any angle up or down, to suit any requirement.
Referring to the drawings, letters a a represent the two halves of a clamp, (with or without any elastic material, such as rubber or felt, on the inside,) by which the whole apparatus can be firmly fastened around the neck of the lamp A. They are hinged together at b, and, by means of a set-screw, c, or spring,
can be made to clasp or pinch the neck of the lamp. One of the two parts of the clamp has a horizontal rod, 01, extending outwardly, upon which a block, 6, slides, and which can be secured on said rod in any position by a setscrew, f. This block 0 is also provided with a vertical hole, through which a vertical rod, 9, passes, which at its upper extremity terminates in a fork, g, which carries the reflector and mirror frame h, with the mirror 73 on one side and the reflector It on the other.
The frame h is hung in the fork g by means of pins h k which form pivots, on which the frame and its contents can be swung desired angle.
A set-screw, g serves to fasten the vertical rod 1 and its appurtenances in the block 0.
The upper ends of the fork g are made to spring inside, so as to exercise a certain pressure against the sides of the frame h, in order to cause the said frame to stay in the angular position in which it has been placed.
What I claim as my invention is- A frame, h, containing a reflector on one side and a mirror or looking-glass on the other side, hung in afork, 9, attached to a lamp by an adjustable clamp, a a, in combination with a mechanism for adjusting the reflector as to distance from the flame, and also as to height, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
FRANCIS ED MEYER.
