Description

EMIL BOESOH, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-BRACKETS AND REFLECTORS.
Specification formin g part of Letters Patent No. 125,785, dated April 16, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, EMIL Bonson, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Lamp-Bracket and Reflector; and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawing are suflficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention orimprovements without further invention or experiment.
My invention consists in a novel arrangement for suspending the lamp from a bracket or hangers on a wall; also, in an improved reflector, which is attached above the lamp in such a manner as to permit of its being adjusted to various angles, in order to throw the light in any desired direction.
In order to more fullyillustrate and explain my invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specitication, in which- A represents the body or oil-vessel of a lamp. In order to support a reflector or suspend the lamp upon a bracket, I employ a band, B, having two rods, (J, extending upward from opposite sides. Around the upper rim of the vessel A I make a channel, K, and slip the band B over the lamp until it covers this channel. By the use of set-screws M, the band can then be secured so as to permit the lamp to be turned around in a horizontal plane without danger of its falling out.
The reflector which I use is composed of a number of concave sides or parabolic sections, D D, joined at their rims so as to form a reflector, with a hole through the center or top, through which the chimney passes, thus giving a radiation in all directions, while a regular parabolic reflector gives the light only in one direction.
This reflector 1 suspend above the lamp in the following manner: Opposite each other, on the upper rim of the hole through the reflector, through which the chimney passes, l secure vertically plates E. These plates have a curved slot, F, in them, as shown. The rods 0 are bent so as to pass up through the hole and past the plates E. A thumb-screw, H, then passes through the slot in the plates and into the rods, so as to fasten the reflector and hold it in position. The slots permit of the reflectors being adjusted about the screws, so as to throw the light to either side when properly shifted. To the upper ends of the rods 0 is attached a bail, I, by which the lamp may be suspended from or otherwise secured to a wall.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure .by Letters Patent, is-
1. The reflector D and supporting-rods O, in combination with the band B and set-screws M, to fit into a groove in the lamp, substantially as set forth, and for the purpose described.
2. The reflector, with the opposite vertical plates E, each of which is provided with a curved slot, F, in combination with the supporting-rods 0 and set-screws M, substantially as and for the purpose above described.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand
