Description

A. HA'IR GURLING DEVICE Filed Dec. 6, 1927 WTUHNEYS.
atented et. at t.-
CIJERPLIKOWSKI,.OF PARIS, FRANCE.
HAIR-GURILING- DEVICE.
Application filed December- 6, 1927. Serial No. 238,055.
My invention relates to a new and improved electrically heated device for treating the hair. This device is particularly adapted for use in curling or waving hair, but it is applicable to a great many other uses.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a device of this type which can be quickly and conveniently used.
Another object of my invention is to provide a type of this kind which shall be simple and efficient and which shall be cheap .to
manufacture and assemble.
Another object of my invention is to pro vide a device whereby electrically heated ele ments are held by a spring. I
Another object of my invention is to pro vide a device of this type in which the heating elements shall be tightly clamped against the exterior of the lock of hair which is being treated.
Other objects of my invention will be set forth in the following description and drawings which illustrate a preferred embodi' ment thereof, it being understood that the above general statement of the objects of my invention is intended to generally explain the same and not to limit it in any manner.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation.
forms part of the device.
Fig. 4 is a side view of the sprlng.
Fig. 5 is a detail front elevation of one of the heating members and the parts connected thereto.
Fig. 6 is a cross-sectional view of one of the heating members.
As shown in detail 1n Fig. 6 each heating member A comprised a metal shell or casing which is provided with an interior resistance G of any suitable type which is heated to the proper ten'ip'erature when an electric current is passed through it. The resistance G is provided with a layer of heat insulating fibre F which may. either partially or completely cover said resistance G so as to protect the hair more or less from the heat generated in the resistances, G. The resistance G is provided with a cover shell H. The said heat ing member A is provided with an arm or stem B. 1
The shells of heatingelements A are suit 'A are thus electrically insulated. Each heating element A is connected to a clamping stem B may of any suitable metal and which is stamped or cast so as to. have reinforcing ribs C in order to give it greater rigdity. Each stein Bis connected to a plug element D which holds in proper position the conducting wires for leading the current to the resistances Gr.
A pair of the stems B are led through the recesses E of a curved blade spring B. so that when the parts are assembled, they have the relative position shown in Fig. 2. The ends of the curved spring R engage the clamping element A so that said clampingv elements are in the position shown in Fig. 2. The stems B may fit frictionally in openings 1E.
lit is obvious that by. forcing the stems 18 towards each other, the space between the adjacent clamping elements is increased.
llncurling a lock of hair, it is customary tobwind it in spiral form around a central tu e. i The shells of the heating elements can thus be directly clamped upon the spirally wound lock so thatthe heat is communicated directly thereto without any intervening h spacg Fig. 3 is a top VIEW of the spring Wl11Cl1 or the like. Thisenables the use of a relatively low temperaturebecause the heat produced by'the resistances G is directly transmitted to the shells which are in direct contact with the spirally wound hair.
T have described a preferred embodiment of my invention, but it is clear that numerous changes and omissions could be made without departing from its spirit.-
I claim:
1. A heating device for treating the hair comprising a plurality of electrically heated elements and a curved blade spring connected to said elements and adapted to force them towards each other.
2. In combination a curved blade spring having a pair of openings therein, a pair of heating elements located between the ends of the said blade spring and stems connected to said heating elements and extending through said. openings. I
Tn testimony whereof I affix my signature.
