Indicator.
No. 168,475. Pa tented0ct.5,I875.
DAILY FAMILY J REGISTER 1% N. PETERS, PHOTOLITHOGRAPNER, WASH NGTON D C PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM L. GALLAUDET, OF ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN INDICATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.168,475, dated October 5, 1875 application filed July 24, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM L. GALLAU- DET, of 'Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improved Household-Bulletin; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference beinghad to the accompanyingdrawing, which forms part of this specification.
My invention relates to a device which is especially intended for family use, by means of which housekeepers and others may indicate such articles which need replenishing, in which a cardboard or tablet having delineated upon it the names of articles in common use is employed, the same being provided with indicators, which may be pointed or moved toward said names to indicate such as need renewal; and it consists in the novel construction of said indicators and their keepers, whereby their attachment and operation are facilitated.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a face view of a bulletin constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section through one of the indicators. Figs.
A represents a cardboard or tablet made of any suitable material, and having delineated upon it, by printing, painting, or otherwise, the names of articles in common use. This tablet may be suspended upon a wall or kept in any suitable place. Opposite each name is a pointer or indicator, which is arranged to slide in a direction parallel with the name of the article. The indicator B is made of a strip of metal, with one end of arrow-head or other suitable form, and with a portion of the other end turned laterally, forming a lug, I), to serve as a guide and as a fingerpiece for moving the indicator to and fro. The keeper 0 is formed of a piece of metal with its sides bent or turned toward each other, so as to leave a flat space, 0 equal to the width of the indicator between the turned-in sides 0 0 In the flat portion 0 is a longitudinal slot, d, of a length corresponding with the distance which the indicator is desired to travel. (See Figs. 3 and 4.) The indicator is attached to the keeper bypassing the lug b through the slot 01, and both are se cured to the tablet A, without the use of rivets or other fastenings, by passing the portions 0 0 through slits in the tablet, and then turning outward and flattening down said portions, as shown in Fig. 2. The face of the tablet A and the flat portion 0 of the keeper 0 form a seat for the indicator B, which is guided in its motion to and fro by said seat and by the engagement of the slot at and lug or fingerpiece I).
By means of this invention housekeepers or others using or having charge of the articles named on the tablet are enabled to indicatesuch articles as may need renewing by simply moving the indicator, so as to point toward the article a supply of which is desired.
This invention may be arranged for use in stores, workshops, offices, or other establishments by delineating on the tablet the names of such articles as are used in such establishments.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the tablet A, of the indicator B, provided with the lug or fingerpiece I), and the keeper 0, provided with the guiding-slot d, flanges c and constructed as herein described, whereby said indicator and keeper are attached to each other and to the tablet without the use of rivets or other fastenings, substantially as set forth.
WM. L. GALLAUDET.
