SEPARABLE BUTTON..
application mea maren as, 192s. serial No, 265,497
The present nvention relates to improvements in buttons and has reference more particularly to a separable button, that comprises a base and a head, that are detachably i secured together, whereby said button may be used `temporarily in the demonstration of dresses, gowns or suits, the buttons being` used in lieu of pins and the like.
One `of the important objects of the pres engagement with the usual buttons sewed onV the 4waist band of the trousers on the inner side thereof.
A further object is to provide a separable i button which is simple in construction, in-
expensive, strong and durable, and further well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed. Y
@ther objects of the invention will become Il apparent as the nature of the invention proceeds and when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
lin the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the several views I Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through the separable buttonembodying my invention, showing the manner in which the i same is attached to a piece of goods.
Figure 2 is a group perspective view of the parts comprising my improved separable button, showing the saine in disassociated relation. ln the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my=` invention, the numeral v'l designates the base of theseparable button and formed on the front face of the base is the solid shank 2 that is formed with blunt threads 3, for a purpose to be presently described. The button further comprehends 1 the provision of a head 4, 'and Vvwhile I have shown the head as'being of circularshape it 5 is to be understood that said head may be of any desired formation, JA, socket 5 is formed in the rear face of thehead 4 and eXtendi-ngioutwardly from the rear face of the head-- around the socket is the internally threaded collar or sleeve 6, the socket being also formed vwith threads for the Ipurpose gf eeiving the threaded shank 2,0f the An apertured lug 7 is formd on' the periphery of the circular base l and the pui-pose of thislug will be hereinafter more fully described. Y i
In use, a piece'of fabric-A is disposed over the front side of the base l and the'threaded shank 2, a split ring 8 being disposed around the fabric and the shank 2, to partially retain 'the fabric around the shank. The
fabric covered shank 2 is then threaded into the sleeve 6 and socket 5 of the head 4.
Thus the material covering the shank will 4be positively clamped between the shank and the Vsocket and collar thus securely assembling the button in position on the fabric and thus the button 'may be used in lieu of the pins or otherrfastening elements, while a dress or gown is being tried on.
Theseparable button can be readily and easily assembled or disassembled without injuring the fabric, and furthermore the button can be used to properly support a shirt upon the body of the wearer and to this end the tail portion of the shirt is vclamped between the parts of the button with the base on the outside face of the shirt and with the, apertured lug at the top, so that said lug may be engaged over the adjacent button on the inside of the waist band of the trousers as is readily closed.
It will thus be seen from the foregoing description that ll have provided a separable button construction that is simple in construction, inexpensive, yet strong and durable and always positive and ecient in carrying out the purposes for which it isdesigned.
lWhile I have shown the referred embodiment of my invention, it 1s to be understood that minor changes in the size, shape,
and arrangement of parts may be resortedA to, 'without departing from the spirit of the' vobvious fromthe construction disinvention and the scope of the appended Claims.' l
Having thus described my Iclaim as new is:
^ Il.' In a'separable button, a base, a shank formed on one face'of the base and formed 'with frontthreads for its `entire length, and
invention, what over which a piece ofifa'bric is adapted to be dis osed a s lit resilient ri encirclingthe fabric chvergd shank at thggjuncture o the shank with the base, a head provided with a threaded socket in the inner side thereof, and an internally'thr'eaded collar formed on the inner side of the head and extending outwardly therefrom around the socket, the fabric covered threaded'shank being removably secured in the socket and collar.
2. In a separable button, a base, ai shank formed on one face of the base and formed with front threads for its entire length, and over which a ieee of fabric adapteqd to be disposed, 'a sp it resilient ring encirclx fabric covered shank at the juncture o the shankwith the base, a head provided with athreadedl socket in the inner side thereof,
*portion of the fa the inner side of vthe Ahead and extending outwardly therefrom around the socket, the
Vv'fabric covered threaded shank being removably secured in the socket and collar, and a button engaging a rtured lug4 extending from the peripher edge f the base.
3. In a separable button, abase, a shank formed on one face of the a head provided with a Socket in the inne;` side thereof to reeeivethe shank, a portion of a fabric 'adapted to be dis osed over said shank, said lliric being clamped between the shank and the socket, and abutton .en-
'apertured lug extending from the the base.
Y In testimony whereof I atlix my signature.
' i e JOHN E. BUTLER.
