WALTER E. GABY, 0] LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
'rAoK LIFTER.
Application filed June 18, 1927. Serial No. 199,638.
My invention relates to a device for removing or lifting tacks from surfaces into which they have been introduced, and it has especial reference to a device for lifting and containing thumb tacks as generally used by those engaged in making drawings. V
The objects of the invention are to provide a simple and convenient device by which tacks, wherever and for whatever purpose, used, may be quickly remow ed or lifted from the surface or surfaces to which they are applied, and to provide a device in which the tacks thus removed may be collected and stored for further use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combined tack lifter and container which may be conveniently handled and carried about. V
The invention is designed to eliminate the common practice of removing tacks by the fingers, which is often attended by injury to them and breakage of the finger nails, and for this purpose the invention consists of a receptacle or container having means whereby the removal of tacks may be readilyaccomplished and the deposit of the removed tacks within the receptacle may be effected practically simultaneously with the removal.
In the accompanying drawing I have illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, and therein Fig. 1 is a front view,
Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation, the section being taken on line 22, Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a front view showing the invention as used-and Fig. t is a section on line 4-4, Fig. 3.
The invention is shown in the form of embodiment thereof illustrated, as comprising a closed receptacle which is composed preferably of two concave plates 2 and 3 conjoined at the periphery thereof in any suitable manner. Each plate 2 and 3 is respectively provided with a substantially V- shaped slot or notch 2 ant 3, extending inwardly from the periphery of the plates, and the respective slots or notches coinciding to enable either side of the receptacle to be used in removing tacks. The slots or notches 2 and 3 comn'iunicate with the interior of the receptacle, and in using the device either of the plates 2 and 3 is forced between the head at of the tack and the surface A to which it is applied until the shank rocking the receptacle on the convex surface tack is removed and by 't1lt1ng thereof tl e the receptacle, thedeposit of the removed tack within the receptacle is effected.-
I provide a suitable closure for the opening .i'nade in the receptacle by the slots 2 and 3 in order to retain the tacks contained therein. A simple and preferred form of clo ire is shown and comprises a V- haped radial member (5, operable within the receptacle and relativelyto the slot therein to open or close the opening made by such slot. The member (3 is provided with any suitable means, as an extension 6 for the finger or other member to operate same. The ends of the free branches of said member 6 are provided with openings 6" and 6' which are arranged to lit over buttons 7 and 7 pressed in the respective plates 2 and 3, these but-' tons 7 and 7 respectively being provided centrally of the plates 2 and 3 respectively and constituting pivots for said member 6 about which the closure may be moved to open or closed position. of the openings 6 and 6 with the buttons 7 and 7 respectively is insured by the spring tension of the branches of the member 6.
lVhat I claim, is:
1,. A device for lifting and collecting tacks comprising a. receptacle composed of a pair of concave plates conjoined attheir peripheries, each of said plates ha ring a slot extending inwardly from the periphery thereof;
2. A device for lifting and collecting tacks comprising a receptacle having a convex surface provided with a tack receiving notch and arranged to lift a tack by rock-' ing said receptacle on its convex surface.
In testimony whereof I have set myhand.
WVALTER E.;GABY.
