' Ila This invention relates to an assembling device for card cases. and has. for its primary object to provide'a simple and inexpensive means whereby the outer flexible cover sheetof'the case may be easily and quickly secured at its edges to the marginal edges of an inner flexible pocket-forming sheet or wall.
More particularly, the device is designed for use in the assemblage of the parts of the outer cover or holder for card cases of that type havin a plurality'of leaves. or sections secured within the holder and provided with transparent windows forming additional card receiving pockets.
. e Z In'one practical embodiment ofthe invention as herein shown, I provide a' base of suitable dimensions upon which the parts of the card case cover are adapted to be ar-' ranged. The relatively movable presser members 13 holder, the cover member is composed of an outer face sheet 19 of leather or other composition material to the inner face of which the flexible lining sheet 20 is secured. A flexible pocket-forming wall or sheet 21 is arranged over this lining sheet. The outer face sheet 19 is of somewhat greater width than the lining sheet 20 and the pocketforming sheet 21 so that the side and end marginal edge portions 22 of said outer face sheet project beyond the corresponding edges of the lining sheet. The flexible sheets 19 and'20, in spaced relation to their opposite ends are provided with the openings 23 therethrough, and these openingsare adapted to receive the upstanding pins 6 on the base 5 of the assembling device, whereby the flexible sheets may be quickly arranged and held in proper position upon the upper surface of the base 5. The pocket-forming wall or sheet21 which isof less length than the lining sheet 20 is then arranged in position as ShOWn in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Thus, it will be apparent vthat the marginal edge portions 22 of the face sheet 19eXtend outwardly over the hinges 10 and 14. Before the pocket wallor sheet 21 is arranged in place, the opposite longitudinal side edges thereof on one face of said sheet are provided with a suitable liquid cement or adhesive coating and the upper faces of the marginal parts 22 of the sheet 19'are coate with a similar adhesive.
, After the parts have been arranged in position as above explained, the side strips 7 are first folded inwardly to the posit-ion shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, thereby folding the marginal edges 22 of the face sheet 19 inwardly over and upon the corresponding edges of the lining sheet 20 and the pocket wall 21. The end members 13 are then similarly folded inwardly over the base so that the end marginal portions 22 of the face sheet of the cover are folded inwardly. It will be noted that the adjacent end edges of the side and end marginal portions 22 of the face sheet extend at right angles to each other so that when the end portions are folded inwardly, they will lap upon the ends of the inwardly folded side portions 22. One end marginalportion 22 is secured only on the inner surfaces of the lining sheet 20 while the other end marginal portion 22 is secured also uponthe extremities of the opposite side marginal portions of the pocket-forming sheet 21, it being noted that the opposite ends of this sheet 21 are cut out as at 24;. The end presser members 13 are provided with suitably formed notches or recesses indicated at'25 to accommodate the upstanding pins 6"on the base when these members are folded inwardly to the positions shown in Fig. 2. By exerting a downward pressure upon the inwardly folded presser strips 7 and 13,the marginal edge'portions 22 of'the cover sheet are thus caused to firmly adhere to thelinin'g sheet and the side edges of the pocket wall 21.
After the parts have been assembled as above described, the male and female elements of a snap fastener are secured in the openings 28, and the desired number of card receiving pocket inserts having windows of celluloid or other transparent material are arranged in position and extend substantially the full length of the pocket wall 21. 'They are then stitched centrally to said cover member across the width thereof. If desired, the inwardly turned marginal edges 22 of the face sheet of the cover may also be permanently secured by a line of stitching to the lining and the pocket-forming sheets. As will be seen from reference to Fig. 4, the pocket-forming sheet or wall 21 terminates at one of its ends in spaced relation to one end of the cover so that the projecting part of the cover, sheet 19 and the lining sheet 20 constitutes a flap which is adapted to be folded over 'the'other end of the cover member upon the outer side thereof and fastened by the fastening elements above uniformity of the product which it was not a possible heretofore to secure by 'mere reli-.
