PATENT OFFICE.

IMPROVEMENT IN MIN'ERS LAMPS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,323, dated August 31, 1875; application filed March 17, 1875.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, WILLIAM EYNoN and RICHARD G. Cook, of Hyde Park, in the county of Luzerne and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in .Miners7 Lamps; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

'Ihe nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a ininers lamp, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the saine, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a perspective view of our lamp.

A represents the ordinary oil-reservoir, provided at its front side 'with the usual wicktube B, and on the rear side with the hook D, for attaching it to the cap. The met-al at the end of the tube B is bent over, forming a rim or flange, a, to strengthen the tube, and preventin g it bendingin pulling out the wick. Around the tube B is a cup, C, attached to the reservoir A, which cup strengthens the tube or spout, and catches the oil that drops out between the spout and wick, and prevents it from dropping down in the face of the miner. On the rear side of the reservoir A, below the hook D, is secured a curved cap-piece, C, which prevents the lamp swinging on the miners head. for the reservoir A, and in the center of this cover is inserted a spout, I, which allows of the lamp being used for oiling machinery or other places when desired.

Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. In a ininers lamp having the oil-reservoir A and lid or cover H, the oiling-spout I, inserted in the cover and forming part of the lamp, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.

2. The combination, with a ininers lamp, of the stationary metallic cap-piece G and the stationary hook above the saine, all substantially as set forth.
