Description
l. D HUGHSON.
Shutter-Worker.
No. 167,252. Patented Aug. 31,1875.
7' I I II L WITNESSES ATTORNEYS.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB D. HUGHSON, OF PRAIRIE CITY, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHUTTER-WORKERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,252, dated August 31, 1875; application filed July 24, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JACOB D. HUGHSON, of Prairie City, in the county of McDonough and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Combined Shutter Operator and Fastener, of which the following is a specification The invention consists of an elbow-lever pivoted on the windowsill inside of the lower sash, with its second joint arranged below the stop and above the sill, and connected by a link with a T-shaped lever, which at one end is pivoted to the sill, and at the other is connected to the lowerend of the blind, all in such manner that the blind can be opened and closed readily by merely swinging the first-mentioned lever forward and backward, and th ere are stops on a stop-plate combined with this lever, so as to hold it for fastening the blind, open and closed. The operating lever is also extensible for afl'ording a long purchase, and at the same time being capable of shortening, so as not to be much in the way when not being worked.
Figure l is a vertical section, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section, of a window, with my improved shutter operator and fastener attached.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. V
A is the first and B the second arm of the elbow-lever. They are pivoted on the bottom it and the sillE. The latter is connected, by a link, F, with the T-shaped lever G, which is pivoted at H to the sill, and, passing under the lower sash, which is notched for the purpose at the other end, is connected by a link, I, with the lower end of the shutter J, so that by the turning of the elbow-lever A, B forward and backward, to and from the positions represented in Figs. 1 and 2, the shutter will be opened and closed without opening the window. K represents stops on the stopplate 0, over which the lever swings, to be locked for fastening the shutter, either open or closed. L is an extension-piece to the arm A for lengthening to give the requisite purchase to Work easy, and shortening it to be out of the way when not being used.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of elbow-lever A B, having one arm above, the other below, the stop-plate O, pivot D, link F, T'shaped lever G, and link I, with a window-shutter, J, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of stops K, on the stopplate 0, with the elbow-lever A B, link F, T-shaped lever G, link I, and shutter J, substantially as specified.
JACOB D. HUGHSON.
