JOHN nonumo, or BROOKLYN, nnwyonx.
TOY NOVELTY.
Application filed May 23,
This invention relates toimprovements in toy novelties and has particular reference to a combined hand mirror, fan, and toy balloon. a
The primary object of the invention resides in the provision of a toy'novelty having mirrors on opposite sides thereof together with a grotesque or humorous picture, and fan sections normally disposed within the body andhaving manipulating portions extending beyond the body and which coact with the picture to form a part thereof, said manipulating portions being. concealed within the body upon movement of the same to extend the fan sections therefrom and which fan sections co-act with the picture to change the general appearance thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide a. toy balloon in a novelty of the above kind, in which a tube extends into the body with the mouth piece of the tube opening on to a handle member extending from the body, while a toy balloon is attached to the V opposite end, the said balloon adapted to rise above the body when inflated to add to the amusement of the grotesque picture on the body thereof. p
A further object of the invention is to provide a toy novelty of the above kind which is simpleof construction, inexpensive of manufacture, and amusing and useful for the purposes intended.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction. and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claim, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved novelty toy.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view therethrough.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a front elevation with the fan sections extended.
Figure 5 is a front elevation with the balloon in an inflated condition- Referring more particularly to the drawing, the reference numeral 10 designates my improved novelty toy in its entirety which includes a body portion 11 and a handle 1927. Serial No. 193,604.
portion 12 which extends from said body portion. The body and handle are made up of a pair ofidentical fiat pieces 13, 13 of stiff cardboard or the like material but the side edges are adhesively secured together for a distance slightly above the handle portion, so as to leave the side edges thereabove I open for a purpose to be presently explained The outer side face of each of the flat pieces 13 is provided with a picture of a grotesque head '14 and in the present instance, the picture represents the head of a man with his mouth wide open. Fixed to the opposite sides of the body to fit within the confines of the mouth are mirrors 15 whereby the. article may be used as a hand mirror b grasping the handle portion 12.
Pivoted between the pieces 13, 13 by eyelets 16 are fan sections or panels 17 of a shape to normally fit within the confines of the side edges of the body so as to be concealed therein and which fan sections are provided with manipulating tabs or portions 18 which normally project beyond opposite sides of the body and co-act with the picture thereon to suggest side whiskers However, when the manipulating portions 18 are pushed inwardly to extend the fan sections 17 the same are concealed'within the body while the fan sections serve as the ears concealing of the manipulating portions 18 suggestive of whiskers, and the exposing of the ears or fan sections changes the general appearance of the figure and creates a certain amount of amusement. I
Extending from the free end of the handle 12 and extending into the body is a tube 19 to which the neckof a rubber'toy balloon 20 is attached. -The balloon extends out of the top of the body and when in deflated condition, the same hangs downward therefrom, but when inflated b blowing through the mouth end of the tu e, the same rises above the fi re headv tov add to the amusement thereo a The balloon may be held inflated by placing the figure over the mouth end of the tube, or by inserting a stoppe therein.
What is claimed as new is An article of the class described comprisinga body portion having a handle portion. extending therefrom, a grotesque picture on said body portion, a pair of sections pivotupon actuation of the same to move said ally mounted Within said body portion and sections to an exposed position on opposite 10 normally concealed therein and being insides of said body portions, said manipulatdicative'of the ears of said grotesque figure ing portions co acting with said picture to when moved to an exposed position, and form a, part thereof. I manipulating portion extending from said In testimony whereof I hereby aflix my sections beyond the sides of said body porsignature.
tion and movable within said body portion JOHN ROMANO.
