Description

Patented Nov. 20, 1923.
MABEL H. SLATER, OF NEVV' YORK, N. Y.
SMOKING "DOLL.
Application filed November 3, 1921. Serial No. 512,591;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MABEL H; SLATER, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Smoking Dolls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toy consisting ofa smoking doll.
The object of the invention is to provide a doll, statuette or idol which be caused to emit smoke from the eyes, nose or mouth and which also may be utilized to form a holder for pill shaped particles known as devils eggs which, when lighted, will expand and form horns or curls, thus providing an attractive and amusing article which,
when not in use as a smoking doll, may he used as an ornamental piece of bric-a-brac or as apaper weight.
To these ends the invention consists in a smoking doll constructed as hereinafter described and particularly as pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my smoking doll.
Fig. 2 is a vertical, sectional elevation of the same.
Like numerals refer to like parts in the views of the drawings.
In the drawings, 5 is a head provided with eyes 6, nose 7, mouth 8 and neck 9. The neck 9 is substantially cylindrical and fits in a cylindrical recess 10 formed in a base 11.
The base and the head are formed of noninflammablematerial. Passages or openings 12 extend from the interior of the head through the-eyes to the outside thereof. A.
passage 13 extends through the nose and a passage 1% extends through the mouth. An inlet passage 15 extends from the outside of the base to the top thereof at a point inside the head. A piece of inflammable material .16, such as tobacco incense is placed upon the base 11. It is then lighted and the head 5 is inserted in the recess 10. Smoke will issue through the eyes, nose and mouth, the air for combustion entering the head through the inlet passage 15. In the top of the head recessesl'l' are provided and in these recesses are placed pellets 18 known as devils eggs. These pellets upon being lighted will burn and expand forming curls or horns 19.
I claim:
A smoking doll having in combination, a hollow head provided with openings through the eyes, nose or mouth and a cylindrical neck portion, a base upon which said head is mounted, said base being provided in the top thereof with a cylindrical recess adapted to receive said neck portion and also to receive an inflammable material, and position the same within said cylindrical recess, said base being also provided with an inlet pas-' sage extending from the outside thereof into said recess, whereby upon lighting said material smoke may be caused to issue from said nose, eyes or mouth.
. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MABEL H. SLATER. VVitnesses:
