The present invention relates to advertising novelties and has for its primary object to pro vide a device of this character embodying a form simulating a match including the conventional match stick adapted to contain or support the advertising medium.

A further important object is to provide a match simulating article of a materially increased size over the conventional type of match now in use in order that the same will present an outstanding appearance and attract attention to the advertisement carried thereby.

As a further object it is proposed to construct a match simulating advertising novelty of this character which embodies means for utilizing the match stick for attaching or carrying other articles of merchandise thereto and from which the second article of merchandise may be easily and conveniently removed from the match.

A still further object is to provide a device of this character for simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages desired in the details of construction as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of the advertising novelty provided with a compartment in the match stick.

Figure 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view through the match stick.

Figure 3 is a perspective view representing an enlarged double ended match adapted to be separated intermediate its ends.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, and 4 with particular reference to Figures 1 and 2, the

numeral 5 designates a match stick of polygonal cross section contour and which may be made of lightweight wood or other suitable material and of a materially increased size over the conven- 45 tional type of match in use, at least one end of the stick being provided with a striking head 6, which preferably is formed of a material imitating sulphur, although it is to be understood that the same may be formed of the usual sulphur composition to be ignited in the usual manner, if

desired. Extending inwardly from the opposite end of the stick is a longitudinal compartment 1 adapted to contain an article of merchandise, such as for instance, a cigarette, pencil, or any other desired article. The open end of the compartment l is closed by a cover 8 which may be glued or otherwise secured to the end of the match stick. The side walls of the match stick as well as the cover 8 may carry a suitable advertisement 9 of a desired nature.

The form of the invention illustrated in Figure 3 represents a double ended match embodying the stick Ill which is hollow throughout its length as indicated at H and provided intermediate its ends with a perforated or weakened section l2 by means of which the stick may be broken into to afford access to the compartment l I.

It is to be understood that the match sticks illustrated in the several figures of the drawing are to be constructed of a materially increased size over the conventional form of match stick in order that the same will present an outstanding and distinctive appearance for attracting attention to the same and in order that diversified types of merchandise may be placed in or carried by the match stick in the manner as will be apparent.

It is believed that the details of construction of the advertising novelty herein set forth will be readily understood from the drawing without further detailed explanation.

It is also to be understood the invention, in its various forms, may be made of a conventional match size and of conventional match material, if desired.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is 1. An advertising novelty comprising an elongated articlesimulating member having a chamber extending longitudinally therethrough and closed at each end and a score line extending transversely around said member providing a line of separation intermediate the ends of said member to afford access to said compartment.

2. An advertising novelty comprising a match stick having at least one end provided with a match simulating striking head, said stick also having a chamber therein and a disruptible portion on the stick affording access to the chamber.
