Description

(No Model.)
' N. P. SHULIN.
COMBINED CIGAR AND MATCH BOX.
No. 540,697. Patented June 11, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT EEIcE.
NEAL P. SHULIN, or BUTTE, MONTANA.
CO MBINED CIGAR AND MATCH BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 540,697, dated June 11, 1895.
Application filed February 13 1895. Serial No. 538,207- (No model.)
adapted tobe used for cigars and matches,-
yet it may be employed for holding other articles; and it consists in certain peculiarities of the eonstruction, novel arrangement, and
operation of the parts thereof, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically claimed.
The objects of my invention are, first, to pro- .other articles, which shall be simple and inexpensive in construction, and attractive in form, and material.
appearance, in which the matches and cigars shall be kept in separate compartments, and, second, such a receptacle which shall be in its outer appearance a fac-simile of a bottle, thus affording an ornamental box or receptacle, which will be'useful for the depositing of various articles, as well as being of such a character as to deceive a person and thereby affording amusement.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention pertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe it, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of my invention with the parts thereof joined together and showing the matches and cigars in their respective compartments. Fig. 2 is a similar View with the parts separated. Fig. 3 is a plan sectional View taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a similar view taken on line 4 4 of Fig. 1.
Similar letters refer to like parts throughout the different views of the drawings.
A, represents the body of the receptacle, which is hollow and usually cylindrical in form, and may be made of any suitable size, The upper portion of. the body A, is provided with an exterior annular recess a, which fits in the upper section B, which is of the form of the neck of a bottle, so that when joined to the body A, the
' Whole will present the appearance of a bottle.
in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
As shown in'the drawings, the uppersection B, of the receptacle, is contracted'toward its upper part, and is formed with a compartment 5, which is for the reception of matches,
tooth picks, hair-pins, or other articles. Around the neck B, is an annular flange c, which acts as a stop for the cap 0, which is of sufficient size to fit snugly over the upper end of the neck B, and is formed with an opening 0, therethrough. The cap 0, is also provided with an internal annular rim d, which serves the purpose of a rest for a piece of cork or stopper D, which is fitted in the upper part of the cap 0, to carry out the resemblance of the bottle, as is clearly shown As before stated, the opening 0, extends entirely through the cap 0, thus allowing the heads of the matches to come in contact with the cork or stopper D, which is made of soft material, and will thereby prevent the matches being ignited, as might otherwise occur.
When it is desired to obtain a match from the receptacle, the cap 0, is removed from the neck of the upper section, and if a cigar is desired the upper section may be lifted from the body B, upon the upper part of which it is snugly fitted.
From the foregoing, it will be understood that by the use of my invention, a compact and attractive receptacle is afforded for various articles, which, by reason of its resemblance to a bottle, which may be an imitation of a porter, Dublin stout, whisky, or other kind of a bottle, a great deal of harmless amusement may be afforded.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, a
B, adapted to engage therewith and having the compartment 1), the cap 0, provided with the opening 0', having the internal annular rim dand the stopper D, made of soft material all combined to present the appearance of a bottle.
