UNITED STATES OLEA KVARE, 0F McINTOSH, MINNESOTA.
cLoTHEs CARRIER.
Application led October 26, 1925.
This invention relates to a clothes carry.-v ing device, such as a trunk or grip, and particularly to such a device arranged to carry garments or dresses in such a lmanner that they will not be creased or wrinkled. Vhen taking short trips, persons commonly pack some ext-ra garments in a grip. It' such garments, particularly ladies, dresses, are folded and placed in the grip they become quite mussed and creased and usually necessitate pressing before being worn. This creasing and mussing of dresses occurs even if they are in a folded' condition in a gripY for a short time and is a great inconvenience..
It is an obj ect of this invention, therefore, to provide a clothes carrying device having means on which the garments, such as dresses, are disposed so that the same may be carried without' creasing or mussing.
It is a further objectY of the invention to provide a clothes carrying device having a casing, a carrier therein having a smooth exterior surface, such as a cylindrical or partly cylindrical surface about which theV Garment is wrapped, means Vbeing provided or holding the garment on the carrier and foiproperly suppo ting the carrier in the casing. p
It is still a further object of the invention to provide such a clothes carrying device, as set a second carrier the iirst' carrier said second carrier also having a smooth exterior surface about which a garment may7 be wrapped, means being provided for holding the garment on said second carrier .and for properly supportingy said carrier in spaced relation to said irst carrier. l
It is more specifically an object of the invention to provide-a clothes carrier comprising a plurality of carriers with smooth exterior surfaces adapted to haveA garments, respectively, wrapped thereon, one or more of which carriers may positions with different sizes of surfaces, together with means forholding the gar'- ments on the carriers and for properly supporting the carriers in the device and holding the same in' proper position.
These and other objects of the inventionwill be fully set orth in the may be used surrounding following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings in which forth in the above paragraph in which and the garments thereorn.
be held in various and advantagesl Serial'No. 64,847.
like reference characters refer to the same parts throughout the diierent'views, and in which,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the device embodying the invention, being broken away to show the interior;
Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Fig. 2, as indicated by the arrow, showing the lid in open position;
Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken substantially on the line 34-3 of Fig. 1, the interior portion and partly in vertical section;
Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Fig 3, as indicated by the arrows, one of the carriers being shown in open position; and l Fig.V 5 is a section also'taken substantially on the line of Fig. 3, showing garments on bothcarriers. v Referring to the drawings, a clothes carrying device is shown comprising an outer casing. While this casing may be acasing of a trunk or other clothes carrying receptacle, in the. embodiment of the. invention illustrated the same is shown asin the form of a hand grip, said casing being designated G and being partly cylindrical in form with flat ends 6"L and a iat bottom 6b. .The casing is provided with a lid 7 hinged' along one longitudinal edge, which lid is also flat and substantially of the width of the bottom 6, the same having a iap 7 adapted to extend down over the side of the casing 6. The lid 7 has secured thereto a bail strap handle 8 of ordinary form, and while any means may be providedvfor holding the lid in closed position, in the embodiment of the invention illustrated, said handle is shown as having keepers 81 at its ends through which may extend the straps 9 having buckles 10 thereon adapted to hold the lid 7 in closed position. A carrier 11 is provided in portions thereof` being shown partly in side elevation desiredA casing 6 having a smooth exterior surface and, while this carrier may be of various forms, in the embodiment ofthe invention it is shown as substantially cylindrical.
Said carrier is closedV at'one end and pro- 6 Cil ing out the objects above set forth, in the novel parts and combinations of parts disclosed and defined in the appended claims.
lVhat is claimed is:
l. A clothes-carrying device having in combination, a casing, a-readily removable carrier therein having a substantially continuous smooth exterior' peripheral surface adapted to have a garment Wrapped thereabout and supported thereon, means for holding said garment on the exterior of said carrier, and means for supporting said carrier in said casing in a stationary positionso that said carrier and garment thereon are spaced from the vWalls of said casing.
2. A clothes carrying device comprising a casing, a removable carrier therein having a substantially smooth exterior surface adapted to support a garment on said surface, said carrier being hollow, a removable lid for said car "ier, means at the ends of said carrier for holding a garment on the exterior thereof, means for supporting the end portions of said carrier and lid in said casing, and means for holding the same in a stationary position therein.
3. A clothes-carrying device having in combination, a casing, a removable substantially cylindrical carrier therein, means for holding a garment Wrapped about the exterior of said carrier, a second readily removable and substantially cylindrical carrier surrounding said first mentioned carrier, and means for supporting and holding said carriers in stationary position in said casing in spaced relation and in spaced relation to said casing.
Al. A clothes-carrying device having in combination, a casing having semi-cylin drical sides a plurality of removable nested carriers having substantially smooth exterior surfaces in said casing adapted to have garments Wrapped thereabout, means for holding said garments on said carriers, means for supporting said carriers in spaced relation to each other and to said casing and a lid hinged along a longitudinal element of one of said sides.
5. A hand grip having in combination, an elongated casing having substantially semicylindrical sides, a. lid hinged thereon along the longitudinal element of said casing,` a carrier in said casing having a substantially smooth exterior peripheral surface adapted to have a garment Wrapped about said surface, means for holding said garment on said carrier, and means at the ends of said casing for removably supporting said carrier spaced from said casing. Y
6. The structure set forth in claim 5, and means on said lid for holding said carrier in stationary position.
7. A hand grip having in combination, an elongated casing, a lid hinged thereon about a longitudinal element thereof, a carrier in said casing having a substantially smooth cylindrical exterior surface adapted to have a garment Wrapped about said surface, means for holding said garment on said carrier, a second carrier also having a substantially smooth cylindrical exterior surface and surrounding said first mentioned carrier and adapted to have a garment Wrapped` about its exterior' surface, means for holding a garment on said second carrier, and means at the ends of said casing for supporting said carriers in spaced relation and spaced from said casing so that said carriers are readily removable.
8. A hand grip having in combination, a casing, a hinged lid thereon, a carrier in said casing having a substantially smooth exterior surface adapted to have a garment Wrapped about said surface, means for holding said garment on said carrier, a second carrier also having a substantially smooth exterior surface and surrounding said first mentioned carrier and adapted to have a garment Wrapped about its exterior surface, semi-cylindrical flanges at the ends ofsaid casing respectively in Which said carriers are supported, and means on said lid for engaging said carriers and holding the same in stationary position.
9. A clothes carrying device comprising anelongated casing, a readily removable carrier therein having a continuous substantially smooth peripheral surface, means for holding a garment on said surface and Wrapped about the same and means in said casing for supporting the ends of said carrier so that said surface Aand garment are spaced from the Walls of said casing.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
