PHONOGBAPH.
Application filed May 12, 1924, Serial No. 712,770, and in Germany May 12, 1923.
My invention relates to improvements in phonographs, and more particularly in phonographs which are equipped with two styli and sound boxes disposed one behlnd the other and adapted for simultaneous operation. The object of the improvements is to provide means for setting the styli in position on the record disk, so that both styh engage in the same section of the sp1r al groove of the record. With this ob e ct 1n View. my invention consists in providing guiding means cooperating with both Styli for setting the same in the proper position on the record disk.
The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detail description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a plan View of a turn-table, record disk and tone arms of known construction showing the improved guiding device in operative position; and
Figure 2 is a section substantially on the line 2- 2 of Figure 1, one of the sound boxes being shown in elevation.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing, the character a indicates the turn-table of a phonograph, b the record disk adapted to be mounted upon the usual center pin 0 and d the tone armshaving the usual styli which are adapted to be positioned in the same phonic groove of the record disk by the utilization of the guiding device of the present invention.
Said guiding device is in the form of a sector and includes a vertically extending member or socket 6 adapted, when the guiding device is in position, to receive the center pin 0 so that the center of the device will coincide with the center ofthe record disk 6, and said sector being adapted to be rotated about the axis of the turn-table a and said record disk. The guiding device further includes two diverging and laterally extending arms f, the outer extremities of which are connected by a curved member having an arcuate outer edge designed to be signature.
engaged by the styli ofthe sound boxes carried by the tone arms so that said styli can be positioned in the same phonic groove of the record disk. After the setting of the styli has ben accomplished the guiding de vice maybe removed from its operative posit1on in engagement with the center pin and record disk, whereupon the record zmay be played. 1
I claim:
1. A stylus setting device for a sound record disc comprising a vertically extending.
member for attachment to a center pin of a phonograph turn table, and a laterally pro- I jecting arm having a curved outer edge adapted to receive and-gulde the stylus in a selected phonic grooveof the record disc.
2. A stylus setting device for a sound- 3. The combination With a phonograph turn table support provided with a center pin adapted to receive a record disc, of a stylus setting device including a radial arm provided with a socket adapted to engage the center pin, and an arcuate outer edge adapted to receive and guide the stylus into a selected phonic groove of the record disc.
4. The combination with a phonograph turn table support provided with-a center pin adapted to receive a record disc, of 'a detachable stylus guiding device positioned on the turn table by the center pin, said guiding device including an arm extending radially of the record disc and provided with an arcuate outer edgeadapted to receive and guide the stylus to a selected point in the phonic groove ofsaid record disc.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my HEINRICH J. uoHENMEIsTER.
