Abstract
635,125. Positioning devices for sound boxes. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Aug. 13, 1946, No. 24058. Convention date, Aug. 13, 1945. [Class 40 (ii)] A device for leading the stylus of a gramophone sound-box into the start of the groove of a gramophone record consists of a ramp 13, Fig. 5, fixed to the sound-box 1 which when lowered on to the record 8 moves towards the centre of the record under the influence of a force produced by friction between the ramp 13 and the record 8, after which a pivoted member 9 adjacent to the ramp 13 moves forward owing to the motion of the recordsurface and allows the sound-box 1 to be lowered on to the record 8. The ramp 13 and member 9 may be constructed in one piece as shown in Fig. 2 and pivoted at points 10, the shape of the ramp part 13 being such that rotation of the combined ramp and member 13, 9 does not occur until the stylus 12 is over the record 8. The device may be fitted with a ramp at least 1 inch long so that it may be used in a magazine gramophone to enable the stylus to be automatically lowered into the start of the groove of a record irrespective of its diameter.
