Abstract

704,396. Gramophone turntable accessories. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 6, 1952 [June 8, 1951], No. 13588/51. Class 40 (2). A speed converter for a gramophone turntable comprises two discs 10, 22 of different diameters and independently rotatable with regard to a bearing 5 in a stationary plate 1 on which is mounted a spring-loaded lever 29 carrying at one end a rotatable shaft 27 having friction gearwheels 25, 26 which engage the inner surfaces of the rims of the discs 10, 22, whereby a reduction of speed of the upper disc 10 is effected relative to the lower disc 22. The centre pin of the existing turntable passes into the centre hole 23 of the lower disc 22 to locate it, and the upper disc 10 is provided with a pin 17 to locate a record placed thereon. The bearing 28 carrying the shaft 27 is mounted for limited pivotal movement about an axis formed by pins passing from the arm 29 into recesses 39, 40 whereby the shaft 27 is enabled to take up its natural position in which the gearwheels 25, 26 rest with balanced pressure on the rims of the discs 10, 22.
