Abstract
1,036,561. Gramophones using stationary records. DAIEI PRESSCORDER KABUSHIKI KAISHA and S. ISEMURA. Feb. 5, 1963 [Dec. 4, 1962], No. 4720/63. Heading G5R. A gramophone using a stationary record 13, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a rotatable shaft 14 carrying a base-plate 16 provided with a rotatable weight 17, 20 at each end, one of the weights 17 carrying a pick-up arm 18 and a balancing weight 19 for the pick-up arm, the arrangement being such that the rotatable bodies can rotate in a completely balanced state at any inclination. Centripetal force on the pick-up arm 18 when rotating may be balanced by a spring 21 extending between weights 17 and 20 or may be balanced by magnetic means, Fig. 7 (not shown). The stylus 12 at the end of the pick-up arm is normally held in contact with the record 13 by a spring 35 but may be raised by means of a solenoid (not shown in Figs. 1 and 2) attached to the pick-up arm. The plate 16 may be raised by means of a lever 26 which engages a pin 27, and the pick-up arm is then returned to its starting position by spring 21 or magnetic means. The lever 26 is operable by a push rod 28 which also actuates switches 32 and 33 which disconnect an amplifier and energize the solenoid which raises the stylus. A disc 38 rotates with shaft 14 and is provided with a plate spring 40 into which a tongue 41 on the pick-up may be inserted manually to lock the pick-up arm in a rest position. The gramophone may be used to play records embedded in the pages of a book, or it may be provided with a casing provided with a transparent cover adapted to lock a record in position and to allow one side of the record to be observed visually whilst the other side is being played. The transparent cover may be provided with means for centring the record, and the means for opening and closing the cover may also operate switches equivalent to switches 32 and 33. The gramophone may be adapted to hold a conventional turntable and pick-up on the opposite face of the casing (the upper face of Fig. 1), Fig. 13 (not shown).
