with such consumable pencils as lip-sticks and eyebrow pencils which are usually carried in hand bags for more or less constant use, and which, therefore, must be compact in size, readily applied and capable of considerable extent of use before exhaustion of the pencil element.
Among the objects of my invention 1s a casing enclosing a lip-stick, the lip-stick being capable of being extended beyond the casing for purposes of use and then withdrawn, or retracted, into the casing for protection.
A special feature of my device is its mechanical construction which allows of the employment of a relatively long pencil, which feature isof the greatest practical and commercial value.
In a general way, my device comprises a casing within which is a vertically movable non-rotatable sleeve carrying a pencil support, or holder, at its upper extremity, this sleeve being capable of telescopic movement over a second sleeve, the latter being revoluble and telescopic over a rotatable rod capable of receiving rotary motion from without the casing.
The many advantageous properties of my device will be evident upon a consideration of my specification and its accompanying drawings.
In theparticular form of the device of my invention shown in theaccompanying drawin-gs, similar parts are designated by similar numerals.

An exterior operative member comprises the knurled head 13 having the reduced portion 14 capable of passage through an opening in the bottom of the casing 10. A threaded rod member 15 having the flange top 16, is fixedly carried by the head 13. A

'The cylindrical member 18, threaded upon its exterior face and having a shoulder 19 and an internally threaded bottom member 20 meshing with the threaded member 15 is vertically rotatively movable on the rod 15. f
The cylindrical member, or sleeve, 18 is vertically rotatively movable within the elliptical member, or sleeve, 21 having a cup 22 fixedly attached by means of solder 23, or otherwise, and an internally threaded hottom member 24 meshing with the threaded 1 member 18. A lip-stick, or other penciling stick, 25 is placed within and carried by the cup, or pencil carrier, 22. The opertion of the device is as follows 2- Figure 2 shows the device in extended position, the lip-stick 25 being almost fully exposed. If, now, the knurled head 13 be revolved, there will result a revolution of the rods 15 and the cylindrical member 18. The revolution of the cylindrical member 18 will cause the elliptical member 21 to descend telescopically, as it can not revolve because of its elliptical formation, thus drawing the lip-stick 25 inwardly ofthe casing 10. The downward telescopic movement of the member 21 upon the member 18 is limited by the abutment of the'bottom of the cup 22 upon the head 19. A further revolution of the rod 15 will then cause the member 18 to telescope downwardly upon the rod 15, this downward movement being stopped by theabutment of the bottom member 20 upon the flange 17. The device will then be in the position shown in Figure 3.
In the modified form of my device shown in Figure 6, the outside casing 10 has a.
closed rounded bottom 26 and an elongated opening 27 at opposite sides. The threadedrod 15 is 'fixedly attached to an annular knurled member 28 extending through the casing openings 27-, 27. The remainder of the mechanism is as described above, the revc tion of the annular member 28 having the 7 same efiect as the-revolution of the knurled member 13. r r
It is to be noted that the double telescopic arrangement of parts in my device allow of the use of a comparatively long-lip-stick, the moving mechanism being collapsible into a small space in its withdrawn position.
I do not limit myself to the particular size, shape, number or arrangement of parts as shown and described as these are given simply as a means for clearly explaining the device of my invention.
What I claim is t '1.
