Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a cosmetic pencil holder of the above nature which may be easily assembled and dismantled and which comprises a minimum number of parts which are economical to manufacture and which cooperate with each other with facility and without possibility of relative jamming to impair proper operation.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a cosmetic pencil holder' which is aesthetic and gracefulin appearance-positive in action and sufficiently compact to be carried within the purse or bag of the user.
These objects and other incidental ends and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear in the progress of the disclosure and as pointed out in the appended claims.
Accompanying this specification are drawings showing preferred forms of the invention wherein corresponding reference characters designate corresponding parts and wherein: 4
Figure 1 is an axial sectional view of the pro pellable cosmetic pencil holder in closed position.
Figure 2 is an axial sectional view of the holder shown in Figure l in open position.
Figure 3 is a view in elevation of the device shown in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a front end view in elevation of Figure 3.
In Figures 1-4 a cosmetic holder is shown of the push-pull type which embodies the features of the present invention.
A shell socket 28 containing the cosmetic or lipstick l6e is reciprocable b an inward push and an outward pull of an extension which is in slidable engagement with the inner face of an outer casing. The closure device for the socket is adapted to be movably secured between said casing and the shell socket and operative upon by the tapered wall of the outer edge of the shell socket.
The outer casing is comprised of a shell 23 reduced and threaded at the ends thereof as at 24 and 25 to threadedly and respectively engage an adapter 26 for the closure device and a cap 27. The shell socket 28 containing the cosmetic I66 is adapted to be axially pushed and pulled through and from the closure device for operation thereof and for this purpose, a socket extension 29 is provided upon which the operating force is exerted. As shown the external diameter of socket extension 29 is'greater than the external diameter of socket 23. Between socket 28 and extension 29 is an externally expanded cylindrical portion 30 which is adapted to bear against and be in slidable engagement with the inner wall of the tubular shell 23 of the outer casing.
Cylindrical portion 30 has an inner and outer peripheral shoulder 3i and 32 respectively. Cap 2'! has a reduced cylindrical bore portion 33 and serves as a bearing surface for extension 29 the said bore portion 33 forming a shoulder 34 to serve as a stop for shoulder 31 of cylindrical portion 30 of shell 28 for limiting retracted position of socket 28.
The socket 23 at the outer end is provided with a tapered or conically shaped outer Wall 35 which is adapted to cause a displacement of blades [5 when the socket is is caused to be pushed forwardly of shell 23 and which causes retraction of the blades I5 when the socket is pulled from shell 23. The blades l5 constituting the closure device for the socket 28 .are constructed similarly to that shown in the first embodiment of the invention except that the'fiared necks 152) shown in Figures 1-5; are divided into a flared portion i521 and a straight portion 35. The straight portion 35" of each of the blades to is provided with an o-utwardly turned leg l5a which is maintained between an inwardly extending peripheral flange 25a having a bevel Eta on the outer edge of adapter 25 and a ring 3%. Ring 35 is yieldably held in place by means of a coiled spring 3'! which is seated on another ring 38 held against the outer edge of casement shell 23.
A piston head 39 slidable within the socket 28 is adapted to serve as the bottom supporting wall for the cosmetic pencil lSe within the socket, the said piston head having an externally threaded hollow stem 40 which is in threaded engagement with a sleeve 4! therefor within socket extension 28. The end portion of sleeve 41 terminates in a square shaped bore lla and an external peripheral flange 42. Flange 12 abuts against the inner edge of socket extension 29 and the inner end of cap 2'1 in limiting projected position of socket 28 while a tubular stem member 43 is freely mounted within the bore of piston head stem 49. Stem 43 adjacent the end has an expanded square shaped shoulder 43a which engages with the square shaped bore Ma of sleeve M, said shoulder 43d terminating in a knob 44 which engages the sleeve end 45.
Between the surface of shoulder 33a and a groove 46 on the inner wall of flange .2 is a piston stem 4 Stem 43 may be used as a socket for an eyebrow pencil and the like and is withdrawable by outward hand pressure on knob 45.
On the outer surface of sleeve 41 adjacent the flange 42 is a groove 48 which is opposed to another groove 49 situated on the inner wall of socket 29 the said grooves together forming a runway for a circular spring as. The purpose of spring 50 is to prevent easy separation between sleeve 41 and socket 29, the parts being separable by exertion of extra force for assemblage and disassemblage of the device. When it is desired to further project lipstick lee beyond the end of socket 28 when socket 28 is in projected position, flange 42 is rotated, the extension 29 being prevented from rotation by the gripping action of blades [5 on socket 28 when the blades are in open position.
