My invention relates to the class of articles usually employed in connection with handles for holding mops or similar devices, and an object of my invention, amongothers, is the production of a mop" holder that shall be, simple in construction, durable and particularly efficient in operation.

One form of. a mop holderembodying my invention and in the construction and use of which the objects herein set out, as well as others, may be attained, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a faceview .of my improved mop holder shown with the handle broken off.

Figure 2 is a side view of the same.

Figure 3 is an isometric view.

Inthe accompanying drawings the numeral 4 indicates the handle of a mop holder that may be composed of any suitable material, as wood, preferably round in cross section and that may have a cap 5 of metal secured over the end, this affording a durable means for attachment of the holder to the handle.

My improved holder comprises two members that are of substantially duplicate construction, except that the shank of one is longer than the shank of the other. Each of these members is preferably composed of wire of a diameter to provide sufficient rigidity for the purpose of a mop holder and each member includes a jaw 6, in the form shown herein of somewhat triangular Shape, and comprising a wire terminating at its free end in a bow 7, andtheextreme end 8 terminating the bow entering a recess or hole in the cap 5. The bow of each member is so formed that the open end of said bow is in close proximity to the cap 5 whereby openings 9 areformed'on opposite sides of the cap and through which openings the shanks 10 and 11 of said members extend, and as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings. The shank 1O terminates in a hook 12 adapted to embrace the handle 4, and the shank 11 terminates in a similar hook 13 adapted to embrace the handle, said hooks, when so embracing the handle, being locked thereto, thereby securely retaining the jaws 6 in clamped engagement with the mop material to hold said material between them.

In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes I have described the principles of operation of my invention, together with the apparatus which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof; but

A mop holder comprising a handle provided with pivot bearings near one end thereof, a pair of frames carried by said handle, each" frame comprising a ,member having a pintle pivoted in one of said bearings, a jaw extending transversely of the handle end, and a bowed portion abutting the jaw and pintle, a free shank connected with the free end of the jaw, the shank of one frame passing through the bowed portion Of the other frame and normally extending along the handle when the jaws are in clamped position, and means on each of the shanks for locking the same to the handle with the jaws in clamping position.
